SUMMARY:
Assists the management team in providing in-depth technical information as requested. Performs laboratory procedures to obtain results for physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases using established protocols that require the broad exercise of independent judgment and responsibility with minimal technical supervision. Works independently and communicates effectively with other healthcare professionals.
PURPOSE:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Assists manager/supervisor in the daily operations of departmental activities to include scheduling, inventory/ordering, technical aspects and quality of work; training, performance of competency assessments and initial review of tech work; and result entry of proficiency testing. Assists in clinical orientation and training of new employees, current employees, and students. Performs duties of a CLIA general supervisor as assigned.
Acts as a point person for problem solving during hours of shift for HNL Blood Bank System.
Accurately performs laboratory testing which may require the broad exercise of independent judgment to include the use of advanced testing techniques. Correlates and interprets data generated from testing.
Recognizes and corrects instrument malfunctions within the scope of the operator’s manual; troubleshoots instrumentation and test methods; records troubleshooting activities; makes decisions regarding action to be taken.
Monitors testing quality and critical values to ensure accurate and timely results.
Assists physicians in the interpretation of test results within the scope of the profession.
Assists in development of and compliance with quality control and performance improvement activities. Actively participates in Continuous System Improvement (CSI) and continuing education programs.
Ensures quality control and preventative maintenance for Blood Bank testing and equipment as assigned. Performs on-going monitoring of department quality. Reports deviations to Blood Bank Manager/Supervisor.
Performs validations for installation of new equipment, reagents, testing, LIS, and EMR.
Participates in the Blood Bank Quality Program for assigned Blood Bank(s) and participates in the implementation of quality improvements. Reviews quality control and preventative maintenance data as assigned. Communicates problems and corrective actions to Blood Bank Manager/Supervisor.
Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies for assigned Blood Bank(s).
Directs the proper storage of hazardous materials and the laboratory safety program in conjunction with the safety officer.
