Summary:

The Underwriting Assistant serves in a lead role to provide insurance services within the organization. Partner with the VP of Insurance Services and Placements to evaluate and place new business in the Loan Protector insurance portfolio, which includes organizing, managing, and maintaining day-to-day processes for all client’s policies and new business. Leverages expertise in: brokerage level underwriting, insurance placement and renewal, claims processing, carrier reporting, master policy library, insurance expertise, and guidance to the organization

Essential Duties and Functions:

  • Process submissions for insurance coverage by evaluating the risks, communications with insurance carriers, agents and producers. 
  • Build positive working relationships to effectively negotiate coverage terms and conditions with carriers.
  • Review and submit MPCR and/or endorsement requests affecting master policy coverage.
  • Build rate tables within our proprietary system/software for each client’s policy.
  • Prepare and submit various underwriting reporting to clients, carriers or members of management.
  • Resource to others for underwriting and claim handling questions.
  • Engage in insurance regulatory activities internally and externally by state guidelines (surplus lines filings, state assessments, compliance, etc.).
  • Build rate tables within our proprietary system/software for each client’s policy.
  • Knowledge and ability to process and handle claim submissions to insurance companies from clients.

Competencies:

  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
  • Commercial Lines P&C forms experience preferred.
  • Surplus Lines tax filing comprehension preferred.
  • Experience with Insurance Agency Management System (Applied or AMS).
  • Excellent time management and attention to detail
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Results oriented with strong desire to learn and acquire new skills.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities to meet deadlines.

Education and/or Experience

  • Property and Casualty Insurance license.
  • Accredited credentialing preferred (e.g., CPCU, CIC, CRM, ARM, AINS, CISR).
  • 5 years of relevant insurance/underwriting/agency brokerage experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements Necessary on a Regular Basis:

Manual dexterity, arm, and upper body range of motion sufficient for use of a keyboard, mouse, and telephone 7-8 hours per day. Speech and hearing sufficient for in-person and telephone communication 7-8 hours per day. Vision sufficient for use of a computer monitor including color, depth perception, and field of vision. Sedentary position. Ability to sit at a desk 7-8 hours per day. Repetitive motion. Employee must regularly lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 15 pounds.

Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including skills, experience, work location and more.  We offer competitive pay while still allowing for compensation growth within the position and company.
