Job Description: POSITION SUMMARY To function as an integral member of the endoscopy team by performing a variety of duties which assist the endoscopist in carrying out a safe endoscopy procedure with optimal results for the patient. Demonstrates patient and customer focus by treating patients and others one serves as a top priority and by meeting or exceeding their expectations. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Facilitates with throughput of patient during admission, procedural and recovery phases. Assists under the direct supervision of the physician with diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound procedures, ERCP, fine needle aspiration with slide preparation, biliary and pancreatic duct stents, esophageal stents, esophageal dilations, specimen collection and other related duties. Responsible for turnover of procedure rooms and admission/recovery areas. Demonstrates competency and knowledge in the manual and automated cleaning process of scopes. Adheres to manufacturer and regulatory guidelines. Documents processing appropriately. Maintains an adequate supply level in procedure rooms, utility rooms and office areas. Ensures the availability and preparedness of supplies and equipment needed to support efficient, effective and safe patient throughput. Monitors for outdated equipment/supplies. Participates in reporting of quality measures. Returns endoscopes and equipment to the appropriate storage place, cleans and ensures transport of certain items to the Sterile Processing Department. Utilizes appropriate chemicals for disinfection. Verifies and monitors shelf life of disinfectants. Reports malfunctioning endoscopes and equipment to appropriate individuals and completes repair request. Notes repair in logbook and arranges for shipping/pickup of endoscope. Effectively communicates with patients, their families, and EHS personnel in a positive and supportive manner Provides back up support for front office/reception area. Provides both emotional and physical support to patients throughout department stay. Assumes responsibility to continue personal improvement in knowledge and competency. Assists overloaded team members, helps develop team cohesiveness and aligns individual efforts with the group. Performs other duties as required within the technician’s scope of practice. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS Familiarity with digestive tract, disease processes and related endoscopy procedures. Familiarity with endoscopic instrumentation and equipment Demonstrates customer relations skills which promote a positive image of the department and organization. Knowledge of infection prevention and control principles. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience: Licensed Nursing Assistant with experience in an Endoscopy setting or Surgical Technician with experience in Endoscopy setting preferred. Certification/Licensure: LNA License or Surgical Technologist certification required (or within 1 year of hire). BLS (Basic Life Support) certificate or completion preferred on hire or required within 30 days of hire and maintains. NH Medical Technologist Registration required (unless other current NH state license is held). Software/Hardware: Basic computer skills preferred.
