What are the responsibilities and job description for the Structural Engineer position at 4 Forty Four?
The Structural Engineer position is a full-time role that combines expertise in structural design and analysis of buildings with a deep understanding of building science principles. The Structural Engineer will design structural elements, produce engineering documents, oversee projects, perform field visits, make safety recommendations, and ensure quality standards are met.
Structural Engineer's Role in Managing and Overseeing Projects:
- Oversee and coordinate structural activities through all phases of design and construction
- Ensure that each project meets local codes, regulations, quality standards, and project specifications
- Manage and design projects acting as the engineer of record
- Design structural elements and produce detailed structural drawings using drafting & modeling software
- Conduct site inspections to ensure project progress and compliance with design specifications, quality and safety regulations
- Collaborate with architects, designers, draftsmen, clients, and other engineers to finalize project plans, provide the most effective solutions for our clients, and ensure successful project outcomes
- Lead and manage structural projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and meet high technical standards
- Perform technical tasks such as designing and analyzing building structures, creating and communicating structural designs, and managing construction administration
- Oversee projects in alignment with our work planning process as per our Construction Planning Guidelines
- Oversee and manage proposals, quotes, and contracts from sub-contractors, vendors, etc.
- Track and log time spent on each project, daily
Structural Engineer’s role within the Organization:
- Administer and manage company processes and systems
- Facilitate information flow and administrative details between clients, office, and jobsites
- Adhere to and administer safety guidelines and protocol as defined by our Safety & Loss Control Program
- Model the company’s culture in a way that inspires and encourages those we encounter and work with
- Manage our projects in a manner that is relational and considerate of those within our circle of influence. For example - interact with Neighbors, Property Owners Associations, Subcontactors and others through the lens of presenting the company and our business model in a manner they would like to work with or recommend
- Represent our company well to prospective clients and within our circle of influence as part of a sales responsibility
- This position will work in alignment with our goal of creating structures that live in harmony with nature through the holistic integration of tried and true methods combined with new technology to ensure projects are built with competence, quality, and stewarding of resources in mind

Knowledge and Qualifications Required - yet not limited to:
- Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering required, Master’s degree in Structural Engineering preferred
- Proven experience as a Structural Engineer on various types of residential and commercial projects
- Proficiency in structural analysis software and tools like AutoCAD and Revit
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) with the ability to seal documents
- Maintain a thorough understanding of structural design principles and construction methods and procedures, including those unique to the mountain climate and terrain
- Thorough understanding of local & state building codes and best practices
- Ability to read plans and perform material take-offs
- Proficient in basic computer skills – manage email accounts, organize and manage files, utilize Microsoft Excel and Word, operate smartphone and computer, etc.
