AVAILABLE POSITION: Deputy Clerk – Union Position

SALARY RANGE: $41,772.43 at hire; increase at 6 months, then annually. Comprehensive fringe benefits.

WORK SCHEDULE: 37.5 hours a week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

POSITION AVAILABLE: Open, until filled

JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision of the Court Administrator and Clerk Supervisor, performs intermediate-level clerical work of some complexity and variety requiring independent judgment and decision-making based on knowledge of probation, criminal, and traffic case processing.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Open, update, and close case files, and prepare case folders, and file folders in various locations.
  • Record and maintain detailed case information in the case management system (JIS).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written communications.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in person and in writing.
  • Ability to back-up other Deputy Clerks.
  • Schedule hearings and appearances according to established procedures.
  • Send notices, prepare, and cancel bench warrants, and suspend driver licenses as authorized.
  • Process and distribute incoming mail; prepare outgoing mail.
  • Provide customer service to the public at the counter and by telephone.
  • Receipting cash and credit card payments.
  • Work in the courtroom recording hearings on JAVS and running Zoom.
  • Communication with law enforcement agencies and other courts.
  • Maintain confidential information acquired in the course of employment with the Court.
  • Other duties as assigned by the judge, court administrator, or clerk supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, COMPETENCIES

  • Must have knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel computer programs.
  • Previous court experience is highly desired.
  • Knowledge of Judicial Information System (JIS) preferred.

EDUCATION, FORMAL TRAINING, AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Possession of a high school diploma is a minimum requirement.
  • Training in customer service techniques is desired.
  • Minimum one year’s experience in a court, law office, or legal department preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES (minimum requirements)

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan Operator’s License.
  • May also be required to become certified as a Certified Electronic Operator.
  • Pass testing requirements to be a certified LEIN (Law Enforcement Information Network) operator within six (6) months of employment and recertify as applicable.
