Position Summary
The UX Strategist is an important role on 829’s Experience, Strategy & Design team. This person will set and guide responsive Web sites and user experiences by expertly connecting the dots across our clients’ brands, businesses, and audiences to create highly engaging and high performing experiences.
The role involves a mix of user research, analysis, design strategy, hands-on information architecture, and creation of strategic deliverables for a wide range of clients and industries, including education, sustainability, SaaS technology, and innovation offerings.
This position involves consistent client contact. We're looking for someone who is confident in owning presentations and deliverables, is both collaborative and self-directed, is an excellent communicator, and who is also an expert collaborator with design and development teams.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Develop relationships with clients. Agency experience preferred, but open to client side contributors who value a fast pace and wide variety of work. You know everything about your clients' goals, personalities, and priorities. You prepare thorough questions and synthesize the insights into innovative human-centered content strategies.
- Do the research. Conduct competitive, industry, and user research through in-depth interviews, workshops, surveys, user testing, and other methods to drive insights.
- Create the architectural foundation of large-scale websites. You’ll conduct qualitative and quantitative research around the client's brand, competitors, audiences, data, opportunities, and translate insights into measurable website goals.
- Create Compelling Deliverables. You'll define user personas, create user journey maps, sitemaps and wireframes presented clearly and persuasively to clients and stakeholders.
- Present your work to client teams. Confidently communicate strategic rationale and research behind proposed directions and recommendations.
- Maintain best practices. Ensure that protocols and principles of UX are being followed. Proactively identify opportunities for improving and evolving processes, offerings, and deliverable formats.
Must Haves
- 3 years of experience - while we will consider candidates with in-house experience, past work in an agency background is preferred.
- Experience with qual and quant user research and UX artifacts including site maps, audits, personas, user journeys, and remote unmoderated user testing and behavior platforms.
- A portfolio or previous work samples - a portfolio that clearly exhibits the ability to conduct research and translate your findings into strategic IA artifacts.
- An understanding of how websites are built using waterfall and agile processes, and the awareness to collaborate with designers, developers, and other personnel when necessary.
- An understanding of integrated digital marketing and its various components. The foresight and understanding to loop in additional marketing disciplines beyond web when appropriate.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
- The ability to problem-solve, confidently make decisions, and lead projects with empathy and authority.
- Comfortable with some technical complexity and in learning and using new tools.

- Experience with SEO, writing, and content strategy.
- Experience with a Project Management system for task and time management.
