What are the responsibilities and job description for the Counselor position at A Safe Haven Foundation?
SUMMARY: This position is responsible for providing substance use treatment services to individuals and groups at A Safe Haven's main campus.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops and maintains supportive relationships with clients and provide general support and encouragement.
- Responds to client personal and interpersonal issues in a professional manner uses approved de-escalation techniques.
- Alerts relevant Case Managers and Program Managers about clients who are struggling or in distress.
- Completes intakes and assessments utilizes the ASAM Criteria to determine the appropriate level of care.
- Develops and reviews treatment plans, goals, and objectives with clients.
- Enters all required client data into the agency electronic health record system (AWARDS).
- Facilitates substance abuse education and treatment groups.
- Provides individual substance abuse counseling.
- Documents all provided services and maintains thorough and accurate records in accordance with DAD Rule 2060 and agency policies.
- Completes discharge summaries for clients.
- Conducts comprehensive chart reviews in preparation for annual audits.
- Maintains client confidentiality according to HIPAA and organization requirements.
- Completes all assigned staff trainings and courses.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree (BA) from four-year college or university in social work, psychology, or criminal justice related field preferred.
- Certificates, licenses and registrations required:
- CADC or MISA preferred OR must be obtained within two years of employment.

- Other skills required:
- 1 years of experience in substance use treatment.
- Experience with criminal justice-involved men and women preferred.
- Knowledge of general principles and approaches for providing services to clients experiencing housing insecurity, substance addiction, interpersonal trauma, and criminal justice involvement.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
- Comfortable using patient health databases and completing basic data entry.
- Ability to maintain professional composure in emotional and complex situations.
- Maintain organized workspace and documentation.
Salary : $55,000 - $60,000
