Our Legal Advocacy Service offers specialized advocacy and support to domestic violence victims, assisting with Orders of Protection and collaborating with legal and community services to enhance victim safety and empowerment.
Your role at A Safe Place
As the Part-time Legal Advocate , you'll assist victims of domestic violence with Orders of Protection, engage in training with legal and law enforcement professionals, and collaborate with community agencies to support survivors in Lake and surrounding counties.
What you'll be doing :
- Implement and coordinate advocacy programs supporting clients in bond, family, and felony courts.
- Represent clients' interests with court systems, State Attorney's office, and law enforcement.
- Develop and update resources for victims seeking Orders of Protection support.
- Educate clients on A Safe Place's services and assist with accessing them.
- Manage confidential files and ensure accurate, timely data entry per standards.
- Provide safety planning guidance and discuss domestic violence concerns with clients.
- Communicate regularly with the State's Attorney's office regarding A Safe Room initiatives.
- Conduct training for staff, volunteers, police, and officials on domestic violence laws.
- Raise awareness in the community about domestic violence through outreach programs.
- Deliver Spanish-language support to ensure accessibility for non-English speaking clients.
- Commit to supporting survivors and fostering a violence-free society.
- Engage clients authentically while maintaining clear boundaries.
- Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds
- Align practices with professional ethics, such as the NASW Code of Ethics.
- Work effectively as part of the team; collaborating effectively across the organization.
- Actively participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and team activities.
- Perform other organizational and program-related duties as assigned.
- Complete IM CANS certification, 40-hour Domestic Violence, and other required training.
