Strategic Interventions, LLC. (SI) is a growing mental health company, currently with eight large ACT Teams located across North Carolina. We offer Evidence Based Practices to adults with severe mental illness. We are known for the great care we take with clients and employees alike. We are currently looking for a Housing Specialist in Marion, NC.

Position Summary:

The Housing Specialist primary purpose is to provide Housing Services to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and/or dually diagnosed members being served. Facilitate the members in finding safe and affordable housing and providing tenancy support to each ACTT Member who is interested in living independently.


Qualifications:

Required Knowledge, Skills, Licensure, Training & Travel Requirements

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in related field is preferred.
  • NC state approved training for Housing and Tenancy Supports is required.
  • NC Certified Peer Support Certification is required in leu of a bachelor’s degree.

Work experience:

  • A minimum of 1 year experience working with adults who have a mental illness and/or substance abuse diagnosis.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • General knowledge regarding Assertive Community Treatment Teams and the services that are provided.
  • Knowledge of recovery principles.
  • Knowledge of community resources concentrating on housing opportunities.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Possess knowledge of interventions needed for the members to find and maintain stable housing.
  • Ability to be available for crisis situations.
  • Understanding funding sources and various housing grants for members is essential to this position.

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Possess skills in establishing a rapport with members, applying techniques of assessing psychosocial and behavioral aspects of a member’s problems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the members being served by the ACT Team.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively. This person must be able to communicate with other team members in a clear, honest, and open manner. This employee must be able to establish appropriate professional boundaries and relationships with staff and members consistent with professional practice and professional ethics.

Travel Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License and insurance required.
  • Travel will vary depending on the daily schedule for this position.
  • All travel is in the community where the members live and work.

Essential Job Duties/% of Time

  • Facilitate housing and tenancy support to each ACT member who is interested in living independently. Assists with budgeting, application processes, establishing credit, understanding and meeting obligations of tenancy. Explore housing opportunities and availability, apply for housing subsidies and programs, negotiate, and understand the terms of the lease and paying rent and utilities. Assist with activities of daily living such as: meal preparation, shopping, laundry, housekeeping, self-care, transportation, resource management, exercise, managing household budgets, crisis management, assessment of medication compliance, environmental changes, problem solving, and follow-up support for as long as necessary. 40%
  • Coordinate with clients, landlords, and community partners to facilitate the housing application process. Serve as a liaison and advocate for program participants with landlords, property managers, and other community partners. 20%
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with community partners, landlords and property management companies. 20%
  • Working with program participants, develop a feasible action plan for the purpose of continued housing stability. Follow up with clients to provide continued, individualized support for action plan items. 15%
  • Miscellaneous Responsibilities (performs other duties as assigned/required) 5%
