Position Summary
The Junior Estimator is responsible for assisting the estimating department with quantity takeoffs, document control, and basic pricing support for heavy civil construction projects. This is an entry-level role designed to build knowledge and experience in construction estimating.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with performing accurate quantity takeoffs for earthwork, utilities, roadwork, and structural items.
- Support the team in gathering pricing for materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
- Organize and manage project bid documents, drawings, and specifications.
- Enter data into estimating software (e.g., HCSS HeavyBid, AGTEK) and Excel spreadsheets.
- Contact vendors and subcontractors to request quotes and follow up on bid submissions.
- Help prepare bid forms, scopes of work, and proposal packages.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site walkthroughs, and project reviews when appropriate.
- Continuously learn construction methods, cost structures, and estimation techniques.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
- Basic understanding of construction drawings and math
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with Bluebeam, HCSS, or AGTEK is a plus
- Good organizational and communication skills
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks
Required Experience/Education
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (or actively pursuing)
- 02 years of experience in construction or estimating
- Internship or co-op experience in construction a plus
