What are the responsibilities and job description for the Backflow Technician position at AAA Backflow?
AAA Backflow Device Testing Inc., is seeking a certified Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester (BPAT) to perform inspections, testing, repairs, and maintenance of backflow prevention assemblies in compliance with California State Water Resources Control Board regulations and local water district standards. This role is critical in protecting the public water supply from cross-contamination and ensuring code compliance across residential, commercial, and industrial properties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct field testing and certification of backflow prevention devices in accordance with California Code of Regulations, Title 17, Section 7605.
- Diagnose and repair or replace faulty backflow devices and ensure assemblies are functioning per state and local regulations.
- Complete and submit all required reports and test documentation to the proper municipal or utility agency (e.g., local water district).
- Maintain detailed service records, inspection logs, and compliance paperwork.
- Communicate findings and recommendations to customers and local officials clearly and professionally.
- Keep tools, test kits, and equipment clean, calibrated, and in good working condition.
- Stay current on updates to local ordinances, water district requirements, and industry best practices.
- Follow all safety guidelines, including Cal/OSHA standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid California Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certification issued by an approved agency (e.g., AWWA, ABPA, or local water district recognized by the State).
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience in plumbing, water systems, or backflow testing.
- Valid California Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience submitting reports to agencies via app: like Kloudgin(CalWater).
- Experience working with municipalities or commercial property management companies.
- Familiarity with digital reporting systems and mobile inspection tools.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and carry tools and equipment.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying California weather conditions.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces or on ladders.
- Frequent kneeling, standing, bending, and walking.
