Abilene Public Schools (USD #435), Abilene, KS, is currently seeking an administrative assistant for the counselors at Abilene High School.
The Counseling/Registrar secretary:
- Assists in coordinating and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the two counselors in the 9-12 building; directs and participates in the maintenance of various academic records and scholorship considerations.
- Acts as a liaison between students and parents, and the counselors and building administration.
- Performs a variety of responsible secretarial/clerical activities related to the functions of the counselors' office.
- Types a variety of material such as memos, letters, forms, reports related to assigned unit.
- Receives, reviews, and verifies documents, records, and forms for accuracy, completeness, and conformance to applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Interviews office visitors and telephone callers and either answers questions, resolves complaints, provides desired information as required or refers to appropriate person.
- Orders, stores, and issues supplies and materials pertinent to the functions of the counselors' office.
- Receives students in counselors' office: prepares and issues admit slips between class and the counselors' office.
- Assists with special events celebrating academic success.
- Complies and computes data and prepares a variety of records, reports, and other correspondence related to student attendance matters and reporting.
- May provide leadership for work study programs.
- Performs related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 18 years of age
- High School Diploma or GED

- Knowledge of proper English usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Ability to train, direct, and prioritize the work of others
- Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
