Position Overview
Wellness Director manages the operation of the Wellness Department including: maintaining standards in resident care services; supervision and oversight of Wellness Department staff including training and assigning overall duties in accordance with the residents’ needs; meeting financial and budgetary guidelines; and upholding state regulations and procedures.
Essential Job Functions
Supervisory Functions
- Responsible for hiring, training, supervising, and assigning significant overall duties/tasks in directing the work of all Wellness Department employees with full accountability for the performance of subordinates.
- Demonstrate independent judgment and discretion
- Train and supervise Resident Assistants in providing day to day care of the residents (i.e. bathing assistance, etc.)
- Train and supervise licensed nurses in supervision of staff and the delivery of care
- Participates in the interviewing/hiring process of Direct Care staff.
- Responsible for orientation of new departmental employees
- Creation of staffing schedules that meets state guidelines, time off requests, overtime guidelines or other modifications in work schedules
- Assists Administrator in adjusting staffing levels based upon fluctuating occupancy and level of care
- Responsible for tracking attendance and effectively carrying out disciplinary action where appropriate
- Communicate and enforce policies and procedures including the Employer’s policies and procedures, and directly disciplines and/or effectively recommend corrective and disciplinary action to enforce such policies
- Evaluate performance and effectively make changes to terms and conditions of employment in regard to departmental employees
Clinical
- Direct and coordinate resident service plans from admission to discharge
- Complete timely and accurate resident evaluations as required by state regulations and Absaroka Senior Living policy
- Complete timely and objective incident reports and investigations
- Trend and track resident and employee incidents to help prevent re-occurrence
- Assists Administrator with timely submission of state required incident reports
- Perform licensed nurse tasks within scope of practice as allowed by state law
- Creates, implements and maintains an accurate wellness record of each resident
- Interact with the resident’s physician, pharmacist, and medical personnel as needed
- Assists with the coordination of care to residents with third party providers such as therapy, home healthcare and hospice
- Supervise the medication administration and/or assistance with self-administration of medication programs as required by state law. Supervise the storage, distribution and discontinuation of resident’s medication
- Administer medications and perform prescribed resident treatments with scope of practice and as permissible by state law
Business Management
- May act in absence of the Administrator
- Adhere to and establish financial goals and budgetary guidelines for the Wellness Department
- Monitor employee morale, in striving to maintain a high level of employee satisfaction
- Communicate and interpret community systems and company policies for Wellness staff
- Manage administrative duties of the Wellness Department
- In partnership with the Administrator, completes timely resident evaluations, facilitating successful move-in experiences, monitoring level of care changes, move-out management which could impact marketability of the community
Regulatory
- Remain abreast of current State regulations and Nurse Practice Acts and compliance with regulatory processes, such as State, OSHA and EPA
- Assist the community in continued compliance with the policies and procedures of Absaroka Senior Living, including those as outlined in the Quality Counts Policy and Procedure Manual
- Timely submission of any licensing survey visits documentation
- Train community staff in infection control procedures including blood borne pathogen exposure plan, and Wellness Department policies and procedures
Customer Service
- Responsible for training and overseeing departmental employees so that they maintain high customer service standards for internal and external customers
- Reinforce and role model a customer experience of the highest quality
- Model the Absaroka Senior Living Leadership Values
- Assist the Administrator with prompt follow-up and resolution of customer service complaints and inquiries
- Help build relationships with outside care and service providers by participating in community outreach activities including routine visits to physician’s, discharge planners, hospitals and SNFs
Resident Rights
- Maintain compliance and understanding of regulations regarding residents’ rights
Training
- Responsible for Wellness departmental employees’ attendance at required education trainings
- Provide staff education and re-education trainings as needed or identified
Other
- Promote and encourage residents to participate in meaningful and life enrichment programs and other activities
- Follow, communicate and serve as a role model for company policies, procedures

Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Licensed RN or LPN/LVN in good standing with State Licensing Authority
- Working knowledge of computers including Excel, Word, and MS Office is required
- Must be able to communicate effectively with residents, families, staff, vendors and the general public
- Must meet all health requirements
- Must be able to perform duties and responsibilities (Essential Job Functions) with or without reasonable accommodation
- Must have a valid driver license
- Must pass criminal background check
- Must have compassion for and desire to work with the senior population
Other Skills and Requirements
- This position is salaried and may include schedules which exceed eight hours in a day or forty hours in a week.
- Able to work full-time, including some weekends
- Occasional travel may be required.
