General Description

This position is located within the Absentee Shawnee Tribal Health System and may work in both Little Axe and Shawnee Clinic locations. Clinic staff members provide multi-disciplinary therapeutic and preventive medical care for beneficiaries. The clinical dietitian will assess the nutritional needs of individuals and groups, plans and implements individualized diet and nutritional meal plans for a variety of patient needs and participates in community events to promote health and wellness in Native populations. The dietitian will collaborate with the medical care team and the community to bring the best comprehensive care to our patients and community members. Continuation of position is contingent based on availability of grant funds.

Responsibilites

Formulates modified diet plans and provides nutrition counseling to clients with therapeutic diet orders.
Provides Medical Nutrition Therapy to high risk patients identified through patient registers, nutrition screening assessments and staff referrals.
Provides clinic and community based nutrition and lifestyle change education programs focused on diabetes prevention and self-management.
Actively participates/facilitates community events focused on health promotion and disease prevention for tribal communities.
Maintains and updates documentation of nutrition counseling in patient records as needed to meet the nutritional needs of the patient.
Facilitates delivery of the National Diabetes Prevention Program and maintains all necessary de-identified data required to achieve and maintain CDC recognition as a NDPP provider.
Prepares, reviews, selects culturally appropriate nutrition education materials
Prepare, write and submit monthly news articles to Tribal media publications. Works with other program staff in development of handouts, exhibits, visual aids and brochures for distribution.
Adheres to professional ethical standards and professional standards of practice.
Takes reasonable action to inform a client's physician and any appropriate allied health care provider in cases where a client's nutritional status indicates a change in medical status.
Plans, conducts or participates in and interprets, evaluates and utilizes pertinent current research related to nutritional care.
Complies with the provisions of the Oklahoma Controlled Substances Act.
Complies with the applicable state and federal regulations in regard to the security, safety and confidentiality of any health services record they create, maintain, transfer, or destroy whether the record is written, taped, computerized, or stored in any other medium.
Maintains verifiable records at an institution or facility that has a published records retention policy that is equal to or exceeds the retention required by federal and/or state regulations.
Practices only within the boundaries of their competence, based on their documented education, training, supervised experience, state and national professional credentials, and appropriate professional experience.
Maintains knowledge and skills required for continuing professional competence.
Maintains the confidentiality of any information received from any person or source about a client, unless authorized in writing by the client or otherwise authorized or required by law or court order.
Notifies the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision within thirty (30) days of any change in address, telephone number, and employment and shall supply an updated copy to Absentee Shawnee Tribe Human Resources.
Renews licenses or certifications and specialty designations before the expiration date.
Provides Absentee Shawnee Tribe Human Resources with a copy of all licensures, certifications, renewal of licensures and certifications upon receipt thereof.
Other duties may be assigned.

Education Requirements and Qualifications

Must possess a baccalaureate or post-baccalaureate degree received from American colleges or universities which held accreditation, at the time the degree was conferred, from accepted regional educational accrediting associations as reported by the American Association of Collegiate Registrar and Admissions Officers which includes a minimum of 24 semester hours from the fields of human nutrition, food and nutrition, dietetics, or food systems management, or an equivalent major course of study as may be approved by the Board. A substantial equivalent major course of study shall be defined as either:
A baccalaureate or post-baccalaureate degree including a minimum of 30 semester hours specifically designated to train a person to apply and integrate scientific principles of human nutrition under different health, social, cultural, physical, psychological and economic conditions to the proper nourishment, care and education of individuals or groups through the life cycle. Of these 30 semester hours, a minimum of 18 semester hours must be from human nutrition, food and nutrition, dietetics, or food systems management; or

A baccalaureate or post-baccalaureate degree including a major course of study meeting the minimum academic requirements to qualify for examination by the Commission.

After meeting the academic requirements persons applying for licensure must be registry eligible with the Commission on Dietetic Registration by having completed an internship or pre-planned professional experience program approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
One year clinical dietetics experience preferred.
COMPUTER SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have proficient knowledge of Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid driver's license
Must possess and maintain a Dietitian License from the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision.
Must be certified as a National Diabetes Prevention Program Lifestyle Coach or able to obtain certification within 3 months of employment.
Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check and drug screen
Must also maintain cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend or kneel for long periods of time.
Sitting or standing or walking for long period of time; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, stooping; good finger dexterity and feeling; frequent repetitive motions; talking hearing and visual acuity.
Frequent lifting (up to 15 lbs)
Occasional lifting (up to 30 lbs)
