Vocational Counselor

The Vocational Counselor will counsel clients in identifying, developing, and meeting their career and educational goals by providing individual and group job development and placement activities.

KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Provide individual and group vocational counseling. Assist clients in the development of realistic short and long-term vocational goals through individual counseling sessions.

· Conduct career exploration and other job-related workshops.

· Refer for TABE testing and refer clients for in-house or community GED and/or literacy development courses.

· Provide comprehensive vocational evaluation.

· Write and maintain progress notes, vocational treatment plan in accordance with agency, state and funder regulations.

· Coordinate and network with various city and private agencies to locate employment opportunities for clientele. Keep updated regarding job fairs and Internet resources.

· Make cold calls/visits to potential employers; explain the benefits of vocational program support and other benefits of hiring ex-offender including addressing employer’s special needs

· Assist clients with job referrals, internships, and education or training programs, and makes referrals to same. Conduct follow up with employers.

· Educate clients on current job market via counseling, workshops, outings, etc.

· Participate in case reviews, case conferences and departmental team meetings as needed.

· Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS:

· Masters in rehabilitation counseling required or bachelor’s degree with two (2) years’ experience in vocational counseling.

· Certified Rehabilitation Counselor a plus.

· Must obtain Mandated reporter (2 hours) training/certificate prior to hire date.

· Must obtain SUD training/certificate within thirty (30) days of hire (if applicable)

· Confidentiality related to 42CFR (3 Hours)

· Understanding of substance abuse issues and women’s issues in recovery.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $53,044.99 per year
