Veterinary Critical Care Specialist

ACCESS Specialty Animal Hospital – Pasadena
Pasadena, CA Full Time
POSTED ON 8/5/2025 CLOSED ON 9/3/2025

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Critical Care Specialist position at ACCESS Specialty Animal Hospital – Pasadena?

A Little About Us and Our Privately Owned, Multi-Specialty Hospital

ACCESS (Advanced Critical Care, Emergency and Specialty Services) was founded in 2005 when Dr. Rich Mills, a board-certified criticalist, set out to bring specialty veterinary care to Los Angeles. As demand grew, so did ACCESS – expanding to the San Fernando Valley, South Bay, and eventually, Pasadena and Palm Beach County (FL) in 2021. While the first three hospitals are now part of Thrive Pet Healthcare, ACCESS – Pasadena and ACCESS – Palm Beach County remain proudly independent and privately owned by veterinarians. This means decisions are made in our hospitals, not in a boardroom, allowing us to stay flexible, focused, and deeply connected to the pets, pet owners, and primary care veterinarians we serve every day.

We’ll Give You Independence, Trust, and Collaboration

We keep red tape to a minimum and avoid layers of bureaucracy. We trust our doctors to make swift decisions that matter to them, their patients, and pet owners.

Critical Care has always been at the heart of ACCESS, with our Criticalists working closely with other specialists in Surgery, Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Neurology, in addition to our experienced team of ER doctors. Our friendly, collaborative team prioritizes patient care above all else.

Our team culture is built on open communication, cross-disciplinary learning, and mutual respect. You’ll have the freedom to grow your way, while never feeling alone.

We’ll Give You the Tools and People to Get the Job Done

Our 25,000 sq. ft. hospital is equipped with advanced technology, including CT, MRI, fluoroscopy, endoscopy, a cloud-based EMR, multiple cardiac and abdominal ultrasounds, a comprehensive in-house lab, and several excellent coffee machines. But it’s our people who truly make the difference.

Our dedicated team of technicians, animal care assistants, doctor’s assistants, customer service representatives, and managers, share your commitment to exceptional patient and client care. With a customized technician training program and dedicated trainers, we value every team member and support their growth, fostering a supportive environment where continuous learning thrives.

Who are We Looking For?

We are looking for passionate Critical Care Specialists to join our growing team. Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential so each person can deliver high quality, compassionate care.

For those of you who are interested in expanding your skills, we are always happy to support additional training in new areas such as ultrasound or extracorporeal therapy. Whether you have experience in these areas or are eager to pursue advanced training in other directions, we’re here to help you achieve your goals!

Great Medicine Starts with Great Benefits

We believe a strong compensation and benefits package is the foundation for great work and a balanced life. We offer a competitive base salary with additional production bonuses (with no negative accrual), and a robust benefits package including excellent health, dental and vision benefits, employee pet discounts and 401(k) with matching to help you thrive both professionally and personally.

Our Neighborhood

Located in Pasadena, California, nestled at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains, our hospital offers easy access to Los Angeles’ vibrant lifestyle and beaches. Pasadena blends Southern California charm with professional opportunity and an exceptional quality of life. Enjoy walkable neighborhoods, top-rated schools, a thriving arts scene, nearby nature trails, and even winter skiing. It’s an ideal place for you to grow your career without sacrificing lifestyle. Whether you love outdoor adventures, world-class dining, or a beautiful, diverse community to call home, Pasadena welcomes you with open arms—and sunny skies year-round.

It's home…

Curious? Let’s Talk – Confidentially, of Course.

If this sounds like the kind of role and place where you’d flourish – where your voice matters, your expertise is respected, and your work truly makes a difference – I’d love to connect. No formalities, no pressure. Just a real conversation to explore whether this could be the right fit for you, both professionally and personally.
