Job Title: Talented and Gifted Teacher
FLSA Status: Exempt
Job Summary
Provide gifted and talented students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Primary Purpose:
Provide services for gifted and talented students that develop potential and lead to an advanced academic achievement.
Other Duties
Provide services for gifted and talented students working in collaboration with administrators and teachers to provide a supplemental support for increasing advanced student achievement for all students, specifically gifted and talented students through staff development, instructional planning, and classroom support.
Job Specifications
Assist teachers to develop and provide gifted and talented students with alternative course work through curriculum modification, acceleration, etc.
Consult with parents, administrators, counselors, teachers, community agencies, and other relevant individuals regarding gifted and talented students.
Plan and conduct parent meetings.
Assist with the selection and purchase of supplemental equipment and supplies for the program.
Show written evidence of preparation as required.
Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences.
Use technologies in the teaching/learning process.
Consistently assess student achievement through formal and informal testing.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)
Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
Highly qualified requirements met
Valid VA teaching certificate w/ certification in gifted education
Knowledge of strategies and materials for the education of gifted and talented students
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to interpret data
Program Management
Knowledge of assessment principals and design
Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners
Attend all ACPS gifted and talented program related meetings
Build professional relationships with colleagues, community, and parents.
Travel as required to fulfill responsibilities of the job.
Staff Development
Develop and conduct or arrange staff development sessions, including sessions on delivery of instruction, enriched learning in classroom setting, and methods for identifying gifted and talented students.
Maintain and improve competence through participation in professional training.
Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district and school regulations and polocies.
Clearance
Criminal Justice Background check, Fingerprinting, TB Assessment
Supervision Exercised: Dependent on grade level and subject; may include instructional assistants, volunteers, tutors.
Supervision Received: Principal/Director of Elementary Education/Secondary Education
