Position Overview
The Managing Director of Student Achievement is an essential leader in
our quest to achieve consistently excellent results at each our schools on
behalf of the students and communities we serve. It will have a direct impact on ensuring high
quality practice and outcomes in the areas of curriculum, instruction,
assessment, academic programing, and school leadership/management support. This position will work in close
collaboration with the Chief Education Officer on all aspects of the Acero
Educational Program from design at the network level to implementation at the
school and classroom levels.
Core Responsibilities
Academic Leadership:
o
In partnership with
the Chief Education Officer, lead the network’s Department of Student
Achievement, which is comprised of teams focused on Curriculum and Assessment,
Performance Management, Data/Student Information Systems, Athletics, Special
Education, and English Learning.
o Drive development of network-level systems and
structure to ensure continuous school improvement in all areas impacting
student achievement.
o Drive the next-generation evolution and
implementation of our rigorous K-12 college-prep educational model on behalf of
all students.
o Establish
policies and protocols as appropriate to ensure strong implementation of our
educational model and consistently strong results for all students.
o Provide input on the continued collaborative
development of professional evaluation systems, including STRIVE.
o Plan and conduct network-wide PD for teachers and
school leaders.
o Recruit, develop, and retain high-quality academic
leaders.
School Leadership:
o
In partnership with
the Chief Education Officer, lead, manage, and supervise Acero’s network of
school leaders.
o Develop and implement leadership development plans
for Principals and other school leadership team members, including onboarding
for new school leaders.
o Conduct regular school-wide walkthroughs,
co-observations, and instructional rounds to provide targeted feedback on
strengths and areas of improvement.
o Work side-by-side with school leaders to address
areas of school improvement.
o Consult on, approve, and monitor annual school
achievement plans.
o Assist school leadership teams with their use of
assessment data to improve the quality of instruction.
o Hold regular check-ins with principals and provide
support as appropriate.
o
Recognize and celebrate school achievement and
principal professional growth and success.
Organizational Leadership:
o
Advise Acero’s senior leadership team on all
matters relating to student achievement and school performance.
o
Provide regular updates to Acero’s Board of Directors
on the status of Acero’s schools relative to strategic plan targets.
o Collaborate with all departments to ensure organizational effectiveness in service of Acero’s mission, vision, and values.
o Other duties and special projects, as assigned.
· Education: Bachelor’s degree (required); Master’s
degree/Doctorate degree (strongly preferred)
· At least 5 years of teaching experience with
demonstrated impact on student achievement (strongly preferred)
· At least 3 years of School Leadership experience
with demonstrated impact on student achievement and school culture (strongly
preferred)
· Previous experience managing multiple staff members
· Spanish language proficiency (preferred)
· Professional Educator License with Principal and/or
Superintendent Endorsement (preferred)
· Must hold permanent residency in the United States

Physical Demands
The nature of the work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment, and the ability to communicate and exchange information, collect, compile and prepare work documents, set-up and maintain work files. Physical demands include the ability to stand, bend, reach high and low, stoop, and walk around the classroom 60% of the day. In addition, candidates must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20lbs. for short periods of time, and walk up and down stairs several times a day.
Working Conditions
Majority of work is performed in a general office environment. Position requires availability for extended hours plus non-traditional hours required to perform job duties. Also requires participation and attendance at organization-sponsored events and meetings.
