Job Title: Environmental Health and Safety Specialist
Actalent is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist near Murfreesboro, TN. This role is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of the Safety, Health, and Environmental systems to ensure regulatory compliance and to achieve continual improvement in terms of an accident-free and healthy workplace.
Responsibilities:
- Advise and assist the site’s management, production leaders, and employees on Safety, Health, and Environmental related issues.
- Serve as the site’s Safety specialist and direct the Safety Committee in all safety activities including training, employee-focused Safety initiatives, monthly facility safety audits, LOTO verification, and site assessments.
- Manage all aspects of the workers' compensation program, conducting quarterly claims review meetings with the safety committee, communicate with healthcare providers, employees, and insurance companies as needed, conduct post-accident onsite drug screens.
- Coordinate the investigation of accidents and incidents that occur to determine root causes and recommend corrective action to prevent reoccurrence.
- Develop and maintain accurate statistics and reports on work-related injuries, to identify trends that require corrective action.
- Conduct and document regular Safety, Environment, and EPA Audits of the facility to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Monitor, revise, and implement ongoing updates in safety regulations, laws, or reporting requirements.
- Know and understand OSHA regulations.
- Create, implement, and maintain all safety procedures.
- Plan, develop and implement safety training for new employees and annual required programs.
- Order and maintain inventory of all Personal Protective Equipment.
- Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace, conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices. Provide advice and counseling for all compliance regulations.
- Coordinate biological monitoring, air sampling, and annual audiograms, and follow-up as necessary.
- Maintain OSHA 300 log and other safety-related statistics.
- Maintain SDS file and chemical list.
- Conduct hourly employee and management safety meetings.
- Manage the Near Miss and Safety Suggestion Program.
- Establish, implement, maintain, and review the Environmental system per ISO14001 requirements.
- Review products, manufacturing processes, and other activities for environmental aspects/impacts.
- Coordinate the proper disposal of all waste generated, including hazardous waste that requires DOT certification.
- Maintain and audit hazardous waste storage area.
- Manage the SPCC plan.
- Act as Spill Coordinator.
- Handle all Environmental and Safety governmental reporting.
- Perform other duties as required or requested.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree required: EHS or Engineering preferred
- 3 years of experience with manufacturing safety programs
- 3 years of experience managing workers' compensation programs
- 3 years of experience with OSHA regulations
