Job Title: Laboratory Assistant

Job Description

The laboratory assistant will operate laboratory computer systems and perform various tasks essential for laboratory operations. These tasks may include printing labels, lists, reports, and worksheets for use or distribution, as well as data entry. The role involves verifying pertinent patient information for laboratory testing and billing purposes, ensuring accuracy of requisitions, and verifying specimen identification. The assistant may also operate laboratory equipment such as centrifuges and vortex mixers.

Responsibilities

• Operate laboratory computer systems effectively.
• Print labels, lists, reports, and worksheets for distribution.
• Perform data entry with accuracy.
• Verify patient information for laboratory testing and billing.
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of requisitions.
• Verify identification of specimens.
• Operate laboratory equipment including centrifuges and vortex mixers.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in laboratory operations and data entry.
• Ability to sort and manage patient information.
• Inventory management and typing skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Courses in mathematics and biological sciences are preferred.
• One-year experience in patient care, medical laboratory, or equivalent public contact is preferred.

Work Environment

The work environment includes conditions common to a hospital or laboratory setting, involving exposure to biohazardous materials, potentially hazardous chemicals, and patients with communicable diseases. The position is primarily indoors in an air-conditioned area.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.75 - $17.75/hr.
