Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Phlebotomist to join our team in Manahawkin. The primary responsibility of this role is performing blood draws efficiently and accurately, supporting the high-volume demands of our busiest site. While front and accessioning tasks can be learned over time, immediate support is needed for blood draw operations.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws as the main priority, with potential training in front and accessioning tasks.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
- Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collections clearly and courteously.
- Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Understand and follow all physicians' orders.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
- Check all test requisitions or computer labels against the script to ensure 100% accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature, labeling accurately.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department trainings.
- Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Essential Skills
- Phlebotomy skills with a minimum of 1 year experience in high-volume settings.
- Experience working with patients ranging from babies to geriatrics.
- Reliability and strong customer service skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in specimen handling and labeling.
Work Environment
The position operates in a busy Manahawkin site, with 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM shifts from Monday to Friday, and every other Saturday from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Expect to handle a minimum of 30 patients per day, with volume increasing to 160 patients daily during peak summer periods. The team consists of a site coordinator and three phlebotomists, requiring efficient collaboration and communication.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $16.50 - $19.70/hr.
