What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ambulance Dispatcher position at Active Transport Medical Services, LLC.?
Active Transport is looking to bring on a Dispatcher. The Dispatcher will be responsible for evaluating and triaging all transport requests and deploying the most appropriate resource(s).
This position validates familiarity with the company service areas and medical facilities. Dispatcher must demonstrate the highest level of customer service while coordinating each request. Dispatchers must be able to accurately gather and enter required information into the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
Primary Functions Of The Dispatcher
- Effectively triages all in coming requests for service according to the CBD (Criteria Based Dispatch) for individual counties. Training will be provided for employees.
- Efficiently dispatch vehicles to calls in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate exceptional customer service skills with both internal and external customers
- Maintain a calm and professional demeanor
- Excellent Customer Service, Verbal, Written and Interpersonal communication skills
- Simultaneously document all phone and radio transactions using a computer aided dispatch (CAD) program
- Operate multi-line computerized phone system as well as radio communication equipment
- Demonstrate familiarity with Company service areas and medical facilities
- Possess exceptional knowledge of service area geography, roadways and traffic patterns
- Closely monitor crews to ensure they receive their proper meal periods and rest breaks Prepare and complete reports stating progress, problems and statistics for review by appropriate managers and supervisors.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Additional Duties:
The Dispatcher may be assigned one of more additional duties. These duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Attends all communication meetings.
- Assist with providing information for investigations of incidents as required.
- Perform other job related duties as assigned by Communications Supervisor or Communications Manager.

The individual in this position must possess the following qualifications:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to work effectively with a diverse range of individuals, teams, managers, supervisors, and external customers. Excellent ability to communicate and work cohesively across Department lines.
- One to two years of EMS and/or dispatch related experience and/or training preferred.
- 40 wpm is required (typing certificate will be accepted)
- Customer service experience strongly preferred
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and in writing
- Proficient in the Microsoft Office
- Must be able to sit for an extended period of time and wear a telephone headset
- Requires frequent repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, reaching and grasping
- Must be able to hear and communicate clearly to perform job duties in person and over the telephone
- Ability to read, write and speak English fluently
- Ability to work under pressure while meeting strict deadlines
- Must have a mature, courteous, and decisive nature in order to provide maximum customer service under stressful conditions.
Education Requirements:
The individual in this position must possess the following education requirements:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- EMD Certification preferred however not required
- AHA CPR Certification, obtained within 30 days of hire
