The Floater Homeless Shelter Resident Assistant will support the programs of ACTS that make a difference in the lives of our neighbors in crisis. Floaters will be assigned to work in our homeless shelter to fill vacancies created by leaves of absence, vacation or temporarily vacant positions and to cover open shifts due to emergencies, etc. Resident Assistants are responsible for the safety and comfort of the shelter residents and manage the daily operations of the shelter. They also respond appropriately and professionally to individuals calling the ACTS shelter. Shifts are scheduled for coverage seven days a week, including holidays during the day and overnight. Flexibility in schedule is required.
Benefits and Rewards:
Salary: $18.88/hour ($19.38 for bilingual fluency in Spanish, French or Arabic)
Reports to: BW Shelter Supervisor
Hours per week and Schedule: Varies – Partial or full shifts of 12.5 hours, day or overnight , plus additional hours for required meetings and occasional extra shifts
FLSA Classification: Non-exempt (Overtime after 40 hours)

- None.

- Remain on-premises, alert and available to clients for the entire shift unless relieved with supervisor permission
- Maintain documentation for and complete end of shift log/census report.
- In emergencies, contact appropriate aid (fire/rescue or police) and then notify Shelter Supervisor. Prepare an incident report as soon as circumstances permit.
- Attend regular staff meetings and supervision meetings outside of regular shift hours, in-person or virtually
- Maintain a clean, welcoming, warm, residential environment, oversee the shelter’s daily activities and enforce house rules.
- Prepare facilities for incoming residents including cleaning, sanitizing and stocking rooms and bathrooms and sanitizing common areas.
- Conduct intake process in coordination with specialists and case managers and in accordance with shelter procedures including reviewing rules, providing basic care items and a tour of the shelter.
- Assist residents with daily needs such as dispensing supplies, coordinating cab services
- Assist the case manager with small tasks to help residents reach their goals.
- Conduct room checks at the beginning of every shift and house checks several times throughout each shift.
- Prepare and monitor the resident chore chart; assign chores, motivate residents and issue warnings when necessary.
- Assist residents in the planning of meals and preparing/cooking meals for all house residents, when needed.
- Organize, sort, put away, and distribute donations.
- Conduct exit process in accordance with shelter procedures.
- Report to the Housing Director when repairs are needed or equipment needs to be replaced.
- Completes required 40 hours of training annually including CPR, First Aid and NARCAN certification and other human service trainings.
- Be a part of and abide by the requirements of the shelter on-call schedule. Flexibility is required.

- Coursework in higher education in any human service field (trauma, counseling, social work)
- Bilingual (Spanish, French or Arabic and English)
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Field experience preferred.
- Ability to meet the following physical requirements: included but not limited to bending, squatting, and pushing/pulling/lifting up to 50 pounds, twisting, kneeling and standing/sitting for long periods of time.
