Serves as first customer point of contact for requests, complaints, and incidents. Assists Ada County Patrol Deputies at Lucky Peak Reservoir with general patrol duties, conducts boat safety inspections, assists with marine enforcement, boater education, and public outreach.

SHIFT INFORMATION
This temporary full-time position (with no benefits) would be from late May through mid-August. Generally, four 10-hour shifts per week to include weekends. Shift will likely be a mid-swing shift, but flexibility is needed to perform the job duties.
  • Provides resolution within established guidelines, escalates complex situations as appropriate; 
  • Ensures safe boating operations in compliance with laws and regulations;
  • Serves as primary site liaison to state and federal regulatory agencies such as, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Idaho Parks and Recreation;
  • Promotes public/community relations as dock representative;
  • Conducts recreational boat inspections for proper safety equipment, compliance with boating regulations and licenses, and issues citations when needed; 
  • Assists with boater education courses; 
  • Monitors and coordinates parking;
  • Controls traffic along waterway;
  • Watches for and alerts people of dangerous situations such as wakes, commercial traffic, etc.;
  • Completes and submits required reports and paperwork;
  • Performs related functions as required.
  • Knowledge of boat operations and marine laws preferred; 
  • Knowledge of first aid techniques preferred;
  • Must be able to read, interpret and memorize large amounts of information relating to policies, procedures, laws and police operations; 
  • Knowledge of English grammar, punctuation and spelling; 
  • Knowledge of modern office equipment, practice and procedures;
  • Skill in the peaceful resolution of conflict and the diffusion of tense situations;
  • Ability to project an image of self-confidence and control; 
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of data; 
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions;
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships
Other Requirements
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent; 
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license;
  • Must complete an NASBLA approved Idaho Boating Safety Class prior to start date (the course will be arranged at no expense to incumbent);
  • Must undergo a polygraph examination, background check, and pass an oral examination; 
  • Must be deputized and wear the uniform of a non-commissioned deputy sheriff;
  • This position has been designated safety sensitive and therefore the incumbent is subject to random drug testing.
  • Work is performed primarily on and around the waterways of Ada County and involves an element of personal danger;
  • Requires sufficient physical strength to assist patrons with trailer hitches, etc. as needed;
  • May require movement over hilly, steep, rocky, rough, and wet and slippery terrain; 
  • May operate a county vehicle when needed.
