Overview
We are seeking a dedicated railroad track worker to work as a member of a crew to install new railroad tracks, maintain existing track and right-of-way. Employees must be able to meet and comply with rules and regulations set forth by 49 CFR Part 213, 49 CFR Part 214, General Code of Operating Rules, and A&B Railroad Roadway Worker Protection Program.
Duties
- Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
- Participate in group discussions including unit meetings, job briefings, safety meetings or process reviews
- Remove and replace track and track components (e.g. ties, rails, bars, etc.)
- Replace or repair track switches with specific components
- Slide and align tie plates
- Drill holes through rails for insertion of bolts and tighten or loosen bolts at joints that hold ends or rails together
- Correct deviations in track surface, alignment and gauge
- Cut rails to specific lengths
- Receive instructions, requests, general orders, and information from posted bulletins, memorandums, rules and regulation manuals
- Adjust, lift and roll rails
- Sort track material for loading and unloading
- Install and repair street and railroad crossings
- Cut brush and vegetation from the right-of-way
- Spray switches, angle bars and joints with oil for lubrication
- Work safely to prevent accidents and injuries
- Wear protective equipment such as a hard hat, hearing protection, or safety-toe boots
- Work hours may include a nonstandard work week, overtime, and various shift work
- Complete initial training and pass safety rules examinations annually.
- Abide by the company’s safety, quality, environmental, and HR policies at all times.
- Abide by all relevant SOPs as per Company policy as they are related to the position covered by this Job Description.

Qualifications
- One or more years of outside work (construction, farming, heavy equipment operator)
- Must pass a post-offer medical examination, including a drug test that complies with 49 CFR Part 219.
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A with Airbrake Endorsement [CB1] [CB1] preferred but not mandatory.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Verbal comprehension (Understand oral and written communications)
- Communication skills (provide clear instructions/directions)
- Reasoning skills (problem solving and troubleshooting skills)
- Proficient in basic math
- Successfully pass probationary period
- May require regional travel
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Heavy work, lifting to 60 pounds occasionally and up to 85 pounds on a rare basis
- Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/crawl/balance/climb
- Exposure to equipment that intensifies the heat factor on an occasional basis
- Demonstrate auditory and visual acuity/tracking/inspection
- While outside the office environment, the employee is frequently exposed to trains, moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, extreme hot or cold temperatures, risk of electrical shock, highway traffic.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour
