Position Summary:

Provide direction and support to the company’s overall success through the protection of HR, assets and business operations. Manage food safety and occupational safety standards and practices for the assigned campus.  Identify and influence food safety and occupational safety education and training needs.  Maintain technical and process-related programs and tools to address education and training needs. Effectively integrate food safety and occupational safety compliance prevention into day-to-day operations at multiple levels and functional areas within the Company.

 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities (essential functions):

  • Maintain food safety and occupational safety training programs to ensure governmental compliance  
  • Manage and support existing food safety programs and emerging priorities
  • Provide technical support to associates and management regarding food safety and occupational safety programs.
  • Ensure associates receive food safety and occupational safety orientation training and all required annual trainings
  • Manage the Powered Industrial Truck training program and ensure all associates are properly certified
  • Review OSHA Logs and ensure accuracy
  • Serve as Chairperson on the Accident Review Committee and Safety Committee
  • Conduct audits of facilities to ensure General Food Safety (GFSI) and safety compliance
  • Lead annual GFSI recertification audits
  • Participate in food safety and occupational safety forums and sponsor workshops to ensure continued compliance
  • Partner with internal and external business partners at various levels of the organization 
  • Conduct training for associates and management related to food safety and environmental health and safety. 
  • Other safety related tasks as assigned
  • Periodically review and monitor electronic files for compliance to annual and new hire certification and trainings for food safety and occupational safety 

Knowledge:

  • Seasoned knowledge of food safety, sanitation audits, pest control, food safety training, weights & measures, Country of Origin requirements, regulatory food codes (FDA Food Code)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook 

Skills:

  • Self-starter with solid interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Strong coaching, training and motivational skills: ability to lead
  • Proven ability to excel in a team environment
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities and reprioritize based on emerging risk

Abilities:

  • May require overnight travel, as necessary (often reacting to inclement weather issues)
  • Ability to communicate and complete required record keeping functions
  • Must be able to work needed schedule to perform assigned duties
  • Ability to work in a –5 degree to 90 degree Fahrenheit environment (temperature varies within each department) for long periods of time
  • Work in a warehouse environment with varying conditions (i.e. cool temperatures, concrete floors, powered industrial trucks)

Education:

  • Master’s Degree in public health or food science related field.
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of experience and or specialized certification
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a life science (food science, biology, microbiology, zoology) or public health field.
  • 1 to 3 years’ experience in managing food safety or quality assurance related work including training and auditing. 
  • Registered Sanitarian or state equivalent and Certified Professional-Food Safety (CP-FS) credentials.

Supervision Received:

  • Periodic check-ins with campus leader to review performance of facility and takes lead discussing with facility team on how to resolve unfavorable audit results/findings or steps to take to be FSMA compliant.
  • There will be standard expectations of processes and reviews, however this role will lead research to determine root cause(s) for exceptions discovered.

Supervision Given:

Provide indirect coaching and mentoring with leadership team and floor associates.
