What are the responsibilities and job description for the Home Care Aide position at Advanced Home Health Care?
Advanced Home Health Care is currently looking for a full time or part time Home Care Aide in the Keokuk and Ft. Madison, Iowa area. We are looking for someone available to work between 8:00a-5:00p.
The Home Care Aide assists the client/family with home management activities and with personal care to chronically ill/disabled clients of all ages in their homes under the supervision and direction of the Registered Nurse, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, or Speech Therapist.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Work in the client’s home under the direction of written and oral instructions from a Registered Nurse (RN) or Therapist. The main duty is to provide personal care or perform simple procedures as an extension of therapy services.
- Assist client in transfer and ambulation.
- Report changes in client’s condition/problems to the RN Case Manager.
- Assist client with medications but may not be responsible for administering medications.
- Perform household procedures essential to the health and safety of the client such as laundry, meal preparation, and light housekeeping.
Home Care Aide Duties:
- Bathing/shampooing, dressing, oral care, fingernail care, foot care, skin care, and perineal care.
- Transfer, turning, positioning, and range of motion exercises.
- Transfer from one position or mode of travel to another, including mechanical lift.
- Routine catheter care and toileting.
- Feeding client and assisting with fluid intake.
- Recording weight, temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressures.
- General or therapeutic meal preparation.
- Linen change.
- Making occupied and unoccupied beds.
Working Environments:
- Work in the homes of clients.
- Sit, stand, bend, lift, and move intermittently during working hours.
- Is subject to frequent interruptions.
- Is involved with clients, personnel, family members, and other health care providers under all conditions and circumstances.
- Work may extend beyond normal working hours, on weekends, and on holidays as necessary.
- Is subject to falls, odors, and emotional upsets from clients/significant others.
- Is subject to tobacco smoke from clients/significant others.
- Is subject to animal and various home environmental injuries.
- Is subject to varying weather and road conditions while driving the car to and from home visits.
- Is subject to the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
- Is subject to lifting and supporting clients.
- Assignments may include extensive driving on highways and gravel roads as well as city streets.
