Job Role and Responsibility: AMD, Inc. is hiring an SMTS Software Development Engineer to research, design, develop, and/or test operating systems-level software, compilers, and/or network distribution software for semiconductor operations, applying principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis. Support, maintain, and upgrade code for software infrastructure associated with central processing unit (CPU), graphics processing unit (GPU), and/or system on a chip (SOC) devices. Drive software optimization by suggesting designs, features, and/or modifications to improve functionality and performance of AMD's products. Test software for hardware compatibility and/or to influence hardware design. Analyze software performance, implement algorithms, and evaluate complex technical data to identify, debug, and troubleshoot issues. Show technical leadership on small to mid-size projects and on definable portions of larger projects related to developing and advancing AMD's technology. Collaborate with cross-functional design and engineering teams on new product initiatives. Communicate the status of software development projects and related interdependencies to management or senior engineers in technical staff.

Qualifications: Degree required
Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or related field.
Amount and type of experience required: 36 months of experience in the job offered or closely related engineering role.
Alternate combination of education and experience: Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or related field and five (5) years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or closely related engineering role.
The following skills are required:
Must have 3 years of work experience in the following:
- Linux or Windows internals;
- Unix or Linux environments;
- C or C ;
- OS kernel & systems development;
- Multi-threading, low-level device drivers, and embedded driver development;
- Software debugging (macOS, Linux, or Unix); and
- Data structures.
