We are in search for our next Controls Engineer to join our team. This position is responsible for overseeing controls engineering project requirements involving control system & panel design, PLC & HMI programming, instrumentation, and start up assistance. Overseeing large – scale electronic components for automation of APT’s custom products in order to exceed our customers’ needs. This position will be the Controls Project Manager for projects ranging from $1M – $2M while partnering with our Process Engineers to complete projects in the $50M range. Located in Cokato, MN you will work at our headquarters alongside our experts in engineering, manufacturing, and the food and dairy industry.
Job Responsibilities
- Designs, develops, and implements control system to meet process system requirements.
- Develops schematics detailing control system configuration and wiring, and design equipment panel layouts.
- Own projects from idea to completion including participating in the commissioning and start up process both remotely and at the customer jobsite(s).
- Partner with Process Engineers in developing the control system scheme and equipment list.
- Lay out IO for controls panels and redline existing drawings.
- Test control panels and set up instruments and devices.
- Perform PLC and HMI programming, and custom reporting.
- Perform in-house program testing and customer Factory Acceptance Testing.
- Develop SOPs for the control system.
- Train the end user on operating the control system.
- Member of the on-call support team for existing customers technical support.
- Technical lead on projects mentoring and guiding lower-level engineers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 3 years of experience in custom automation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering OR Equivalent years of experience in automation.
- An in-depth understanding of control systems, components, logic programming, experience with instrumentation and controls design and PLC systems (specifically Rockwell).
- Strong demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to work well with team members, clients, and subcontractors.
- Right to work in the U.S. that is not based solely on possession of a student visa or a visa sponsored by a third-party employer.
- Travel up to 30%.
Preferred
- Experience with AutoCAD and/or EPlan.
- Experience with Ignition and/or Wonderware.
- Experience within the food and beverage industry.
