Overview
The Medical Assistant performs any combination of following duties under direction of physician to assist in examination and treatment of patients.
Responsibilities
Primary duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Prepare examination/treatment rooms; measure vital signs (i.e. pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure) as well as height and weight and records information of patient charts;
- Interviews patients to obtain data for visit (reason for visits, medication changes, social history)
- Coordinate care with CLS;
- Inventory and order medical supplies and materials;
- Maintain log books for quality control;
- Provides preventive health education;
- Inventory (vendors, labs, pharmacy);
- Hand instruments and materials to doctor, as directed;
- Clean and sterilize instruments;
- Operate electrocardiograph (EKG), and other equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests or calls a medical facility to schedule patients for tests;
- Administer treatments, and perform routine laboratory tests per MD/NP order;
- Scanning, faxing, make calls;
- Assist with specimen handling;
- Assist in developing and implementing desensitization programs per MD/NP;
- Participate in meetings or case conferences, as needed;
- Provide educational support to patients and direct care professionals on behalf of patient;
- Perform all other duties, as requested by supervisor;
- Referral follow up
- Radiology and Laboratory follow up
- Participates in Chronic Care Management Program
Expected Hours of Work:
Days and Hours of work vary, Monday through Saturday, 9:00am to 7:00pm, including evenings, 35 hours per week.
Work Location:
This job operates in both the Brookville and Freeport Advantage Care Locations. Travel is regular between both locations.
Qualifications
- Graduated from an accredited medical assistant training program; Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant preferred.
- Basic Life Support Certification.
- AED Certification.
- Strong oral, written, and organizational skills required.
- Prior experience coordinating medical record activities of a busy medical office or health care center, preferred. EMR experience preferred
