Medical Assistant (MA) - Immunizations

POSITION SUMMARY: The primary responsibility of the Immunization Medical Assistant is to provide support to the Immunization Clinic Nurse Coordinator in vaccinations and immunizations internally and in community settings. The Medical Assistant will administer vaccines to adult and pediatric patients, tracks and documents vaccines in the electronic medical record, and assist with updating records and reporting to the State of Missouri immunization portal, and perform the duties required to coordinate and monitor provision of medical services in a professional manner for each individual patient.

Education: Graduate from Medical Assistant program required. Prefer Registered Medical Assistant.

Experience: Three (3) years as an MA in community clinic, public health nursing, and/or hospital setting;

• Requires strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively individually as well as a team member with physicians and other staff.
• Ability to appropriately interact and educate patients, families, and staff.
• Experience with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Microsoft office applications such as Outlook, Word and PowerPoint.
• Experience administering immunizations to pediatric and adult populations
• Skills required for reagent handling, labeling, processing, preparations, transportation and storage necessary
• Must be knowledgeable of required regulations and comply with them.
• Ability to coordinate the activities of a busy organizational practice.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  
  

Transportation Requirement: Must possess a valid driver's license and automobile with insurance coverage as required by the State of Missouri.

License(s)/Certificate(s): Certified or Registered MA in the State of Missouri.

Essential Functions

• Administers immunizations and vaccines to Affinia Healthcare adult and pediatric populations as dictated by state regulations
• Documents vaccines in NextGen electronic health record
• Report immunizations to the ShowMeVax
• Assists with preparing immunization reports for the city DOH
• Coordinates services with the city DOH
• Daily management of immunizations, documenting, and reporting
• Assists with ordering and administration of COVID vaccine
• Assists with coordinating community immunization events
• Assists with coordination of community immunization needs and events
• Closes care gaps through scheduling patients for appointments with provider
• Coordinate and monitor provisions of medical services.
• Assist providers, take and record vital signs, abnormal results, distribute sample medications and administer injections per provider's orders.
• Triage walk-in clients, call-in clients as appropriate for patient care and safety.
• Keep patients records; complete appropriate forms and reports. Provide appropriate documentation. Adhere to patient confidentiality.
• Complies with all designated safety policy and procedures in the work area including the use of applicable personal protective equipment when necessary to prevent exposure to potentially infectious agents.
• Provide health education and counsel patients in provider instructions and treatment program. Coordinate nursing care plans with other team members.
• Assist with implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of Quality Improvement Programs.
• Observe sign and symptoms, document and report reactions of the immunizations to the appropriate provider.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
