Blasters Helper
Full Job Description
A Blasters Helper will assist the Blaster in Charge in order to detonate explosives used at various rock quarries throughout the state. Explosives are required to break solid masses of rock into adequately sized pieces in order for our customers to crush and process the material into construction materials. These construction materials include concrete stone, base stone, pipe bedding, and rip rap.
A Blasters Helper will start the morning at the Ahlgrimm Explosives shop in Hortonville. From there, the Blasters Helper will assist in loading the bulk trucks with the proper amount and type of explosive products required for the scheduled blast. The blasters helper will also gather tools required for blasting such as hand held radios, video camera, and seismographs.
The Blaster in Charge and Blasters Helpers will then drive to the quarry where holes in a designed pattern have been previously drilled and perform the following tasks:
- Place required amount of detonators and boosters next to each hole
- Prime the booster with the detonator and lower down each hole
- Assist the bulk truck operator with filling each hole with the bulk product to the height specified by the Blaster in Charge.
- Fill the remainder of the hole with clean stone
- Pickup any tools, boxes, or bags after all the holes have been filled
- Setup seismographs at locations at nearby structures
- Setup camera to record the blast
- Help Block all access points into the blast zone during the detonation of the shot
- Pickup seismographs and record seismograph information and gps information
After all the blasts have been completed for the day, the Blasters Helper will drive back and help reload the bulk trucks with fuel and bulk products used for the following day. Any remaining explosive products not used during the blast will be placed back into the proper storage facility.

Requirements:
- Valid drivers license
- Pass a background check and drug test
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to start early in the morning and work until the job is done
- Ability to walk on rough quarry floors and slight grades
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 45 – 55 per week
