What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nurse Faculty Educator position at AHS Vista LLC?
Oversees and conducts the day-to-day orientation preceptorship of all new nursing staff from post-general orientation to unit specific orientation. Engages nursing staff in critical thinking and advances skill development.
Responsibilities:
- Identifies learning gaps and provides education to correct deficiencies.
- Maintains full accountability for nurses being prepared on general skills needed for Inpatient and Emergency Department nursing care prior to unit-specific handoff. Nurses should perform at a level of taking a full patient assignment as part of the preceptorship.
- Completes checklist and documentation of skills/abilities on new nursing staff.
- Engages in coaching and regular 1:1 check-ins to ensure staff retention during the orientation process.
- Ensures a smooth transition from nursing general preceptorship of skills to unit specific training.
- Supports the identification and development of staff annual and real-time competencies. Conducts competencies hospital-wide for nursing staff as needed.
- Develops nursing programs at the request of the Chief Nursing Officer (e.g. Nurse Residency, Career Ladder) for handoffs to departments.
- Conducts in-services and education as requested.
- Assists in community education as necessary.
- Engages in staff recruitment at events and in the community.
- Serves as a resource on nursing best and leading practices.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing required. Master of Science in Nursing preferred.
- 5 years academic teaching experience in a BSN program.
- 3 years BSN program clinicals experience with students.
- 5 years recent Emergency Room experience with having worked other units preferred (particularly ICU).
- At least 2 years in an Emergency Room charge nurse or equivalent role.
- Clinical Educator certification (CNE) preferred.
- CPR, BLS and ACLS certification.
- License Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
