The Alabama Industries for the Blind (AIB) is one component of the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB). AIB includes the manufacturing facility in Talladega, Alabama and Birmingham, Alabama along with the operations of five Base Supply Centers in two states, which are located on Anniston Army Depot, Fort Rucker, Maxwell Air Force Base, Moody Air Force Base, Redstone Arsenal, Robins Air Force Base.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Temporary Production Worker available to work on various production responsibilities related to the operations at Maxwell Air Force Base in compliance with Javit’s Wagner O’Day Act, federal and military guidelines and Alabama Industries for the Blind (AIB).
ABOUT YOU
You will play a vital role in duties of cashier with all aspects of customer service of the Base Supply Center as you will be a part of the AIB team in producing high quality work. This position reports to the Store Manager – Base Supply Center, Moody Air Force Base.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
· Ability to perform production assignments to meet customer expectations and on time delivery schedules.
- Must meet the federal definition of legal blindness.
- Possess a REAL ID compliant, STAR ID or valid U.S. Passport to gain access to the military base.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Minimum one (1) year of experience working with individuals that are Deaf, Blind, DeafBlind, multidisabled or has another significant disability.
- High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Certificate.
- Enrollment in AIDB Educational and/or Rehabilitation Program to allow for work experience.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Must follow AIDB policies and procedures.
- Must follow Maxwell Air Force Base guidance and regulations to maintain access to the base.
- Must understand, support, and follow the mission of the AbilityOne Program by remaining in compliance of statutory and regulatory requirements set forth in the Javits-Wagner-O’Day Act. You are expected to conduct all business ethically and lawfully.
- Demonstrate a good attendance record. May be required to work overtime to meet on-time delivery schedules.
- Perform your job responsibilities that sets a good example for others to follow.
- Deal pleasantly and courteously with all of the AIDB Team.
- Attend conferences, in-service training, and other functions as directed by supervisor.
- Possess general knowledge of office equipment and machines.

- Upon offer of employment, the applicant must complete a criminal history background check and be able to gain access to the military base.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Must learn basic knowledge of production operations that will include various job assignments.
- Operate and maintain industrial shredding equipment after attending proper training.
- Prepare documents for shredding, which may involve removing materials like paper clips, binders, rubber bands, staples, or any items that may be harmful to the shredding equipment.
· Oversee and perform the destruction of confidential materials.
· Ensure shredded material is properly disposed of.
· Maintain confidentiality of the sensitive information that is being shredded.
· Janitorial duties with general knowledge of janitorial equipment and basic housekeeping techniques.
- May be required to perform sedentary work and be able to sit for long periods of time.
- May be required to be physically capable of standing and walking for extended lengths of time.
- May be required to lift up to 60 pounds on a regular basis.
- Work independently with minimum direct supervision.
- Must meet Safety and Quality Standards.
- Must possess or develop an understanding of cultures and needs of persons who are deaf, blind or deaf/blind, ensuring all actions and decisions demonstrate a respect for and value of persons with sensory loss.
- Must attend Disability Sensitivity Training within the first six (6) months of employment.
SALARY: $11.08 - $13.12 Scale IB Rank 00
Direct deposit is required.
The work schedule is based on 8 hours each day with a total of 40 hours each work week. This is not an exempt position, and is subject to overtime of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
