GIFT SHOP SUPERVISOR

Overview:

This position is to help in managing the merchandise gift shops to ensure the accurate, timely, and appropriate display and re-order of merchandise.  This position will ensure that guests and employees receive quality service that reflects the Mission, Vision, and Spirit of the Rocket Center.

Responsibilities:

1. Gift Shops
   1. Ensure that the gift shops are open and closed in an accurate and timely manner and that they are properly secured.
   2. Meet or exceed the expectations of the Merchandise Operations Manager for the cleanliness of all gift shops and related areas.
   3. Prepare and distribute gift shop reports in an accurate and timely manner.
   4. Respond to and, whenever possible, resolve guests’ questions and complaints promptly and in a manner that reflects the Mission and Spirit of the Rocket Center.
   5. Ensure that merchandise shops have adequate supplies necessary to conduct daily operations.
   6. Systematically accurately conduct physical inventory counts.
   7. Maintain adequate levels of merchandise in the gift shops through the timely placement of orders to the warehouse.
   8. Meet or exceed the expectations of the Merchandise Operations Manager for the accurate and timely completion of related tasks and assignments.
2. Gift Shop Organization and Staffing

1. 1. Meet or exceed the expectations of the Merchandise Operations Manager and the Manager of Human Resources for orientation affiliation and discipline.
   2. Ensure that Gift Shop staff receives timely, relevant, and appropriate training.
   3. Ensure that Gift Shop staff complies with all Rocket Center policies and procedures as well as departmental guidelines.
   4. Ensure the accurate and timely completion of tasks assigned to Gift Shop staff.
   5. Ensure that staffing schedules optimize productivity and comply with contractual obligations.
   6. Meet or exceed the expectations of the Merchandise Operations Manager for the accurate and timely completion of related tasks and assignments.

1. Adheres to organizational policies and applicable laws.             
2. Instructs, coaches, and encourages staff to support by action and example the mission and vision of the Center.                                                                                   
3. Demonstrates good judgment within the supervision of staff.  
4. Effectively monitors staff performance and offers appropriate coaching, counseling, or supervision as required.                                                                                      
5. Completes staff evaluations, documentation, etc., on time and effectively.
6. Serves as an effective role model to staff by demonstrating exemplary work ethic.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have experience effectively coordinating the display and appearance of merchandise. 
• Must have excellent verbal communication skills to interact with guests and employees.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in retail is preferred. 
• Experience in inventory procedures desired.

Physical:

This position has the following special requirements:

• Walking, and climbing (stairs) to access other departments and gift shops.
• Standing for long periods (4-6 hours).
• Pushing, carrying, and lifting items and merchandise weighing up to 40 pounds to waist height.
• Bending, kneeling, and reaching to store, stock, and retrieve merchandise and supplies.
• Reading, sight, wrist movements, feeling to operate register, conduct inventory, inspect displays, racks, and merchandise.
• Talking and hearing to instruct employees and assisting guests in person and over the phone.
