The Nutrition Department at the Alameda County Community Foodbank is looking for a Community Nutrition Education intern.
The Community Nutrition Intern will spend the majority of their time assisting the Nutrition Program Manager in successfully completing the assigned projects which includes developing resources to promote healthy eating, providing nutrition and wellness promotion services for clients at member agencies, entering data into appropriate systems and preparing research reports on Nutrition Policy and representing ACCFB at community Health Fairs as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Support research initiatives related to nutrition policy.
- Input inventory data related to HER into designated software systems.
- Create educational resources such as information sheets, recipes, and lessons on nutrition, health, and related topics.
- Represent ACCFB at Health Fairs and pass out nutrition resources.
- Present nutrition workshops for partner agencies on appropriate topics.
- Gather client feedback on lessons and integrate their interests into future lesson plans.
- Conduct participant surveys, collect feedback, and enter responses into databases.
- Ensure compliance with organizational protocols, and protecting client information in accordance with HIPAA, IRB, and other applicable laws and guidelines.
- Perform other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Required Competencies
- Bi-lingual, with native-level fluency (verbal and written) in English and Spanish, Cantonese or Mandarin.
- Basic knowledge of nutrition and community health education practices and principles.
- Passion for continuous learning about nutrition and health topics.
- Clear and effective communicator; excellent presentation and writing skills.
- Computer skills, including proficiency with the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Proven ability to work in a team and independently and out of the office when needed.
- Empathic personality and comfortable working with people from diverse ethnic, economic, and religious backgrounds in various settings.
- Access to reliable transportation.

Physical Requirements
This work is in an office and a warehouse environment. Physical activities necessary in the performance of this job include the ability to: Move throughout the 118,000 sq ft. Food Bank facility in performance of duties for up to 2 hours. Sit and work at a computer workstation for up to five hours; operate a computer and keyboard; communicate in a clear speaking voice in person before large groups and over the phone; access transportation for team errands and travel to local events and meetings with external parties.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This is a part-time intern position with a flexible expected start date of March 15th and ending on June 30th. The total number of hours worked for the entire duration will be 470 hours working Monday through Friday with a maximum of 37.5 hours per week. Compensation for this role is $21.24/hr. Interns are not eligible for paid vacation or holidays, or to participate in food bank health plans.
