MISSION CONTEXT:
Alaska Health Fair, Inc. (AHF) is a nonprofit organization established in 1980 that has been serving Alaskans through health education and affordable blood screenings. Our grassroots model of "Alaskans supporting Alaskans" connects hundreds of local medical and non-medical volunteers with health-focused organizations who share their expertise at no cost. Each year, we deliver over 100 community health fairs across Alaska, from the North Slope to Southeast.
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Program Director serves as a key leader in implementing AHF's community-based health fair model. This position is responsible for the planning, development, delivery, and post-event activities related to health fairs (health education and early screening events), as well as other duties related to community and worksite health promotion events. The Program Director embodies AHF's commitment to building a stronger, healthier Alaska through grassroots community engagement.
DUTIES:
Program Development & Management (approx. 65%)
- Initiate health fair and other community health promotion events.
- Secure program and site sponsors.
- Plan, schedule, and conduct Site Coordinator training/orientation ensuring community engagement.
- Update applications for each season in coordination with other Program Directors.
- Conduct health fairs events in accordance with established procedures and protocols, focusing on creating a positive and educational environment for health fair attendees, as well as health educators (Exhibitors, local nonprofits, etc.) and volunteers.
- Conduct post-event analysis to measure the impact of health fairs and report findings to stakeholders; use data to improve future events.
Partnership Development (20%)
- Maintain liaison with assigned communities and client organizations.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with local hospitals, clinics, other health and wellness organizations, and healthcare professionals.
- Expand community health partnerships by actively seeking new relationships with local health, wellness, and safety-focused organizations.
- Develop and maintain memoranda of agreement (MOAs) and contracts.
Volunteer & Exhibitor Management (20%)
- Manage events, volunteers and exhibitors using TexRUs (AHF's volunteer/exhibitor/event management system), including online scheduling, applications, and reporting.
- Secure Volunteers and Exhibitors for health fairs and maintain necessary records.
- Conduct community kick-off events and orientation for medical and non-medical Volunteers, Site Coordinators, and Exhibitors.
- Provide ongoing coaching, support, and recognition to volunteers; address performance concerns constructively.
- Generate reports from TexRUs to track volunteer engagement, event metrics, and program outcomes.
Participant Relations & Customer Service (15%)
- Handle health fair participant inquiries, concerns, and feedback with professionalism and empathy.
- Coordinate with the laboratory partner to address and resolve any errors or questions about blood test results; communicate corrections to participants clearly and sensitively.
- Provide excellent customer service during all health fair events and communications.
Administration & Reporting (15%)
- Handle program correspondence and perform clerical duties.
- Submit activity reports, receipts and requests for expenditures, and any financial records.
- Conduct health fair reconciliations, including tracking of blood screening tests, coupons, screenings, money, and in-kind donations.
- Update and maintain the website as it pertains to their area programs and health fair information.
- Handle money, checks, credit card information; make bank deposits.

- Ability to learn new database/management systems (training provided on TexRUs)
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree or similar in health education, community programming, public service, marketing, public relations, or a related field * Experience in event planning, community health programs, or related fields * Experience coordinating the work of volunteers * Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders and handle difficult conversations professionally * Ability to work well under pressure with changing deadlines and priorities * Flexibility in working hours, including some evenings and weekends during health fair season * Must have reliable and insured transportation capable of winter driving conditions * Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as required for event setup and materials transport * Bondable status
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:
- Work on weekends during the health fair season (September, October, November, March, April, May) is required * Travel throughout Alaska to coordinate health fairs and meetings could be necessary * AHF is a non-smoking workplace * Paid time off during the health fair season is discouraged due to the intensive event schedule.
Compensation and Benefits
Full-Time (40 hours/week)
- Annual salary: $55,000–$70,000, commensurate with experience

Part-Time (up to 25 hours/week)
