What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Technician position at Alco Manufacturing Corporation LLC?
Basic Function: Overall goal of position is to assist Quality and Production in controlling processes through training, problem solving, and part inspection to improve quality within company standards for safety, quality and productivity.
Essential Functions:
Assure conformance of product in specific Value Stream with emphasis on prevention versus detection. Supports new products/processes, and attends PECT meetings when needed.
Provide technical support for capability or gage r &r studies.
Perform first piece inspection or verification where required.
Assemble Job package books used for production. Maintain accurate and complete quality files. Configure SPC using SPC software.
Identify and quarantine suspect product as necessary.
Participate in corrective action identification and root cause analysis as needed.
Provide customer support through data analysis and trending information as directed.
Instruct Machine Operators on blueprint interpretation, correct gauging techniques, use of SPC, inspection processes, process sheets, and two pan system.
Interface closely with key personnel from Production, Quality, and Engineering as well as customer Quality or Production Departments on quality-related issues as directed. May travel to customer site(s) to lead sort assignments as needed.
Make decisions on quality related items based on customers’ guidelines and ISO standards as appropriate.
Additional Responsibilities:
Initiate in-process or final auditing training with department auditors to assure expected quality results are adhered to on the production floor.
Audit parts returning from outside operations. Approve movement to next operation or quarantine as appropriate.
May prepare formal Inspection/Sort instructions for sort operations as needed.
Participate in quality improvements and cost reductions.
Assist Production in the use of special gauging equipment.
May perform Quality System auditing. Assist Quality Engineer as directed.
Housekeeping: maintain work area in a neat and orderly manner.
Perform all safety inspections to equipment daily (such as pallet jacks), use proper lifting techniques.

Knowledge, skills and ability:
The ability to read and write English and perform basic math skills with a basic understanding of machining process.
Ability to read and understand & interpret Blue Prints, Inspection Plans and follow instructions.
Ability to organize, prioritize with changing requirements; strong attention to detail and ability to work well with others.
Ability to use, interpret and train others to properly use gauges including micrometers & calipers, comparators & special gauges.

Ergonomics
Lifting policy
Education, Training and Experience:
High school diploma or GED
Formal Metrology or on the job training preferred
Successful completion of ASQC Certification Quality Technician Exam preferred.
1-3 years’ experience with precision measuring instruments in a similar industry, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements:
Some lifting, generally under 20lbs, sometimes up to 30lbs.
Bend, stoop, crouch and balance to find & lift part pans.
Use fingers & hands to manipulate parts while inspecting parts.
Close visual attention required for writing inspection plans, inspecting parts.
Long periods of standing, walking to perform duties
