What are the responsibilities and job description for the Attendance MTSS Coordinator position at Allegan Area ESA?
Position Summary:
This position supports Allegan Area ESA’s strategic priorities through the implementation of the
Whole Child framework, with a focus on promoting student social, emotional, and behavioral
health to improve school attendance. This position will also lead and provide professional
development, consultation, and technical assistance to member districts and Allegan Area ESA
programs in support of installing and implementing the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
Framework for Attendance
Recommended Employment Qualifications:
Education: A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required, or an equivalent combination of
education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge and skills.
Experience: A minimum of three years of successful experience in education, with demonstrated
skills in consultation, training, group facilitation, and/or coaching. Bilingual proficiency in
Spanish is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses or Registrations: Qualifications include completion of professional
learning through the MiMTSS Technical Assistance Center, Adaptive Schools, and/or PBISapps,
or the ability to obtain one or more of the above within 90 days of the date of hire.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Team-Based Leadership
• Collaborate with Allegan Area ESA staff to deliver consistent guidance and streamlined
support for school teams implementing the MTSS Framework for Attendance.
• Build and foster a network of community agencies and partners, such as Allegan County
Community Links, Community Mental Health, and Allegan County Family Court, to support
the MTSS Framework and address the root causes of absenteeism.
• Serve as a liaison between educational institutions and community organizations to
ensure coordinated support for students and families
Capacity & Competency Building
• Provide ongoing coaching and consultation to support system-wide change and
implementation of tiered best practices that align with the Whole Child approach across
county, district, agency, and school levels.
• Deliver technical assistance to local district teams, including guidance on the effective use
of various data platforms.
• Organize and lead regular meetings with county-wide stakeholders involved in supporting
student attendance initiatives.
• Design and facilitate professional learning opportunities for administrators, school
leaders, teachers, and support staff focused on developing and sustaining MTSS
Frameworks for Attendance. Integrate complementary approaches such as PBIS, trauma informed practices, social-emotional learning, restorative practices, and academic tiered
supports.
Data Collection & Use
• Manage the referral process for student attendance concerns, including reviewing
referrals and coordinating formal family communications in collaboration with schools.
• Promote data-informed decision-making by supporting the effective use of data systems
and documentation tools. Assist district staff in collecting reliable data and using it to drive
student-centered strategies.
• Lead the facilitation of tiered fidelity inventories to help districts assess the effectiveness
of their MTSS implementation and identify opportunities for growth.
• Monitor and evaluate the countywide implementation of the MTSS Framework for
Attendance to measure progress, identify areas for continuous improvement, and align
outcomes with district-level goals.
