What are the responsibilities and job description for the Librarian/Media Specialist position at Allendale Columbia School?
Allendale Columbia School (AC) seeks a collaborative and creative teacher to be an integral part of AC’s learning community. The person who is hired for this position will work collaboratively with other teachers, specialists, and the Division Heads to provide a strong inquiry-based and student-centered program. The ability to assess and address current trends in library science and new media are qualities that the successful candidate will possess. This part-time appointment will begin in August 2022.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
Oversee and manage the school’s library for grades Pre-Primary through 12; order books and supplies; manage a budget for the library;
Curate physical and digital holdings and updating as necessary;
Collaborate with faculty to develop a progressive research curriculum;
Provide the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the school library program is aligned with the mission, goals, and objectives of the school, and is an integral component of the learning/instructional program;
Create a library environment that is inviting, inclusive, and conducive to active and participatory learning;
Stay abreast of developments in the field through reading, research, and professional development, including faculty professional development days;
Liaise and collaborate with colleagues, including Head of School, division heads, teachers, counselors, and other resources;
Serve as a full faculty member, participating in sponsorship of student extracurricular activities;
Have knowledge of, uphold, model, and communicate the mission of Allendale Columbia and Allendale Columbia’s Statement of Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity and Belonging.
Qualifications:
- A Master of Library Science (MLS) degree is preferred. Other comparable degrees and experience will be considered;
- Previous experience as a school librarian and /or media specialist
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate closely with faculty and to support research and media projects across all subjects and Divisions;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills related to interactions with students, parents, and teachers;
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
- Attention to detail, strong organization skills, and an adherence to timeliness.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $36,000.00 per year
