Applications Architect

This contract position supports the development of advanced applications and data analytics for critical water-related data. The highly advanced, scientific applications that are developed by this team support the agency’s mission in providing valuable information to help ensure a secure water future for Texas and its citizens. This work involves performing highly complex (senior-level) computer programming and software development work. Work involves assisting project managers in coordinating programming and data distribution and providing technical assistance to internal and external customers. Plans and analyzes user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate processing, data collection and distribution, and to improve existing systems. Assists in maintaining software that retrieves and inserts data into relational databases. Assists in maintaining data related webpages and/or geospatial viewers and providing technical assistance.

• 8 or more years of experience designing, developing, and implementing applications for computer/software systems.
• 8 or more years of experience translating the client’s business requirements into specific systems, applications, or process designs.
• 8 or more years of experience analyzing customer service requirements and designing application solutions to meet those objectives.
• 8 or more years of experience directing the development process from conception to completion and overseeing the efforts of all associated technical staff.
• 5 or more years of experience with Amazon Web Services, to include the management and support of EC2 instances, S3 storage, Route 53, and CloudWatch.
• 5 or more years of experience managing and supporting Ubuntu server operating systems.
• 5 or more years of experience managing and supporting PostgreSQL databases.
• 5 or more years of experience with Python.
• Strong experience with Celery.
• Strong experience with Ansible.
• Strong experience with Nginx.
• Strong experience with Varnish.
• Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
• Independently performs a variety of complicated tasks.
• May lead and direct the work of others.
• A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
