Position Purpose
This position will provide the technical supervision of the Laboratory in the absence of onsite Laboratory Leadership or Technical Specialist . The support provided by this position is that of “general supervisor” as defined by Medicare under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988 (42CFR493.1461 & 1463). In addition, performs duties and responsibilities set forth under Medical Lab Scientist job description.
Nature and Scope
The Laboratory is a 24-hour / 7-days a week operation, providing laboratory services to an inpatient and outpatient population of all ages.
The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide quality and timely laboratory tests for inpatients and outpatients. Test results must be clearly reported to nursing and / or medical staff through direct communication or result entry by computer. Communicating delays in patients care and assisting with technical questions for clinical lab assistants, physicians and nurses is expected.
The incumbent must consider the age of the patient when performing testing and releasing results. Must be able to communicate with a diverse patient population and their family when performing special procedures. Behavior promoting positive customer service is expected at all times.
The incumbent must be knowledgeable of and observe all safety requirements in a laboratory and hospital setting. Comprehensive knowledge must be maintained for all procedures that are required to be performed. Competency in work related skills must be demonstrated annually.

This position does provide patient care. This position may require driving to other Renown patient testing centers as assigned by the Clinical Laboratory Supervisor.

Education :
Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Appropriate education to obtain and maintain Clinical Laboratory Technologist State of Nevada based on licensure criteria.
Experience :
Three years of experience as a nationally certified Clinical Laboratory Technologist (Medical Technologist) preferred.
License(s) :
A current State of Nevada Clinical Laboratory Technologist license is preferred and the ability to obtain a State of Nevada General Supervisor license within 7 months is required. Failure to receive General Supervisor licensure will result in demotion to Medical Lab Scientist.
Certification(s) :
Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) (ASCP) preferred
Computer / Typing :
Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computer skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc. Knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems.
