Heavy Equipment Operator — Maui

The Opportunity

Alpha Inc. is hiring a Heavy Equipment Operator to run excavators, bulldozers, backhoes, graders (and other heavy civil equipment) for mass excavation, trenching, utility excavation, and finish grading. You’ll work under a Foreman and alongside a tight crew to keep production moving—safely, accurately, and efficiently—while meeting project specs.

This is for operators who take pride in clean work, protect the crew, and bring an “Alpha Mentality” every day: show up prepared, operate with discipline, and keep getting better.

Our Core Values

Lead with Heart — Build a collaborative, respectful jobsite where safety and people come first.

Strength in Unity — One crew, one plan. Communicate clearly and back each other up.

Alpha Mentality — Own the work. Push for excellence and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Do

You’ll support heavy civil work with a focus on production and precision, including:

  • Operate excavators, bulldozers, backhoes, graders, rock trucks, and other equipment.
  • Dig trenches/ditches, complete utility excavation, and support pipe/drainage/utility installation with accurate backfill.
  • Grade and level large sites for foundations, drainage, and site prep.
  • Use GPS machine control (Trimble Earthworks preferred) for grading, excavation, and mapping tasks.
  • Perform daily safety checks, operate in compliance with all safety procedures, and promote a safety-first culture.
  • Conduct routine inspections and basic maintenance (fueling, checking fluids, wear items) and report issues/breakdowns to the Foreman.
  • Coordinate with crew members to ensure alignment, safe movement, and quality completion.
  • Read and interpret plans/blueprints to execute grading and excavation per specifications.
  • Assist with loading/unloading/spreading materials (soil, gravel, rock) as needed.

Who You Are (high bar, values-fit)

  • You take personal responsibility for safety, quality, and production—no shortcuts.
  • You stay alert around people, utilities, and moving equipment; you communicate clearly and work well with a crew.
  • You’re steady under pressure, careful with details, and you respect the jobsite and the community it impacts.

Must-haves

  • 3 years experience as a Heavy Equipment Operator with mass excavation experience.
  • Ability to safely and effectively operate: excavators, dozers, backhoes, graders, and similar equipment.
  • Strong understanding of excavation safety, trenching practices, and jobsite hazard awareness.
  • Ability to interpret drawings/blueprints and follow grade/excavation specs.
  • Solid communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Valid CDL Class A (Required) with a clean driving record.
  • Proficiency with GPS systems (Trimble Earthworks preferred).

Benefits & Perks

  • Competitive hourly pay (based on experience)
  • Full family medical/dental/vision options
  • 401(k) match up to 4%
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • Company-provided training, upskilling, and access to modern tools/equipment

Requirements (Conditions Of Employment)

Employment at Alpha Inc. is contingent upon the following:

  • Completion of standard pre-employment screening.
  • A background check conducted after a conditional offer; past issues will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis in line with Hawai‘i and federal law.
  • Passing a drug test (for both full-time and part-time hires), conducted under Hawai‘i’s statutory requirements.
