The CNC Machinist is responsible to setup and operate a CNC vertical milling machine to produce precision parts according to specifications.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Set up and operate CNC vertical milling machines to perform various machining operations, including drilling, tapping, boring, and contouring.
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine machining requirements.
- Select and install appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and workholding devices.
- Conduct test runs to ensure proper machine setup and program functionality.
- Monitor machine operations and adjust settings as necessary to maintain quality and productivity.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on machines and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Inspect finished parts to verify conformance to quality standards and specifications.
- Troubleshoot issues with machinery, tooling, or programs and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety and environmental regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
- Ability to set up and troubleshoot CNC machines independently.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to operate a forklift.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs. unassisted.
- Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods.
- Able to work independently and within a team.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain quality standards.
- Experience with measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
- Familiarity with a variety of cutting tools, toolholders, and workholding devices.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of CNC milling processes, including roughing, finishing, and contouring.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for operating machinery and handling small tools and parts.
- Must have a strong sense of urgency, be time-sensitive and highly motivated.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T symbols.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions quickly and effectively.
- Strong sense of time organization and urgency.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical education or certification in machining is preferred.
- At least 6 months experience operating CNC vertical milling machines in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with Doosans or Haas CNC machines is highly desirable.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in a standard manufacturing environment where they are required to stand and move for extended periods of time. The employee will also be expected to spend time using a computer and other machines. This environment involves standing, climbing, kneeling and crouching. Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull and balance up to 50 pounds unassisted and must be able to do so with extreme care and caution.
