What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utility Forestry Planner position at Alpine Tree Service?

The role of a utility forestry planner is to notify property owners of the future right of way work on behalf of the utility/owner and plan work for the vegetation management crews to safely and efficiently perform their tree clearing.  After work is completed a quality inspection will be completed and documented.

  • Understand scope of work
  • Understand tree species and utility specs.
  • Mark with paint/ribbon ROW boundaries tree removals/trims/Brush/Hazards
  • Communicate with property owner
  • Negotiate access for tree crews
  • Record information regarding all aspects of the work
  • Communicate with the utility representative
  • Generate reports
  • Identify hazards and danger trees


The planner will be entrusted as the face or representative of Alpine Tree Service to the public and utility which requires a high level of professionalism and responsibility. Quality and thorough work performed by the planner will be critical to ensure the planned work will support efficient and quality communication to the tree crew, in turn supporting efficient work and a profitable business model.


Job Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Pay: Competitive, Hourly 


Required Skills:

  • This position requires and individual to be a very professional.
  • Detail-oriented with good communication skills.
  • Must have a minimum of  1 year experience in the utility forestry industry.
  • Must have a experience with Computer Skills (ARC GIS, Microsoft Excel, Word etc...)
  • Certified Arborist (recommended but not required; must obtain within one-two years)

  • Upon offer, employees may be required to subject and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background and/or MVR check.

  • Reliable and on time
  • Consistent and Effective Communication
  • Efficient Computer Skills (ARC GIS, Microsoft Excel, Word, etc..)
  • Positive contribution to the team
  • Continuous improvement
  • Safe work record including being able to identify hazards.
  • Pre and Post Tripping of Equipment
  • Completing Weekly Timecard, and approving your teams (if/when applicable)
  • Driving any/all company vehicles safely and following all governing laws.
  • Lifting 50 lbs continuously
