Responsibilities
The Human Resources Generalist will be responsible for day to day human resources activities. This position can be located at any of our larger laboratory locations (for example: Middletown, Kelso or Holland).
Human Resources Generalist has the following duties:
- Provide advice, assistance and follow-up on company policies, procedures and documentation.
- Coordinate resolution of specific policy and procedural problems and inquires.
- Involved in employment, labor relations and training/development activities.
- Conduct “on-boarding” activities and training.
- Assist with preparing and maintaining company salary structure, job documentation and job evaluation systems.
- Providing human resource advice and consultation to employees and management.
- Coach and counsel employees and management in the area of employment law, performance management, conflict management, and resolution following company policies.
- Work with local management to develop and maintain a culture of open and honest dialogue.
- Generate and assist with state and federal reporting (EEO-1, AAP, Vets 4212, etc.)
- Investigate and resolve employee complaints and concerns.
- May assist with constructive and timely performance evaluations.
- Implements new hire orientation programs.
- Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; and training and development.
- Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
- Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
- Other duties as assigned.
HSE Responsibilities:
- Follow all company operating procedures, standards, policies, and training to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the site.
- Play an active role in the ALS safety program by correcting or reporting unsafe acts and conditions that are observed during day to day operations to create a zero-injury work environment.
- Participate in and support HSE initiatives, as required by ALS leadership.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
- At least one year of human resource management experience preferred.
- SHRM-CP or PHR a plus.

- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organizations HRIS and talent management systems.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
- Ability to make effective presentations on controversial or complex topics.
- Proficient computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities.
- Ability to use and view a computer screen for up to 8 hours per day.
- Ability to communicate via telephone and e-mail without assistance.
