BASIC FUNCTION:
The Physicians Assistant provides a broad range of services that begin with an initial patient consultation and continue with ongoing care and assessment throughout the clinical relationship.
SHIFT DAYS/HOURS:
Schedule will be determined by business need and provider availability. The Surgical Care Clinic is open from 8:00 am 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Current days in the operating room are Wednesdays with Orthopedics and Thursdays with General Surgery.
INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
Supervision Received: Physician and CEO
Supervision Exercised: None
Other: Patients, families, visitors, other hospital personnel, medical staff, other medical facility personnel, and community program personnel, mortuary personnel, EMS personnel, and members of the general public.
EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS:
This position is classified by OSHA as a Class I position and is exposed to odors, infections and body fluids. To reduce job hazards, this position is responsible for wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) during job functions. PPE can include: gloves, gown/coat, shoe covers, head/face, and eye and ear protection. Each job function requires a different level of PPE. Individuals receive initial and annual training to identify the appropriate level of PPE required.
EQUIPMENT USED:
The Physician Assistant will use stethoscope, thermometer, blood pressure cuff, diagnostic equipment (as needed), and laptop computer.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Build a practice and offer medical care to patients in Surgical Care including Orthopedics and General Surgery.
2. Maintain up to date licensure and certifications to remain competent in skill sets
3. Administer patient care to include tasks such as assisting Surgeons, ordering and interpreting tests, taking patients medical history, counsel patients on preventive care, conduct physical examinations, diagnose and treat illnesses or injuries, and write prescriptions
4. Documents patients charts appropriately and accurately using Electronic Health Records system.
5. Regularly attends and is engaged in provider meetings and Medical Staff
6. Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements
7. Continual surveillance and proactive participation in ongoing Infection Prevention and Control measures in accordance with policies .
9. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Graduate of accredited school and a licensed Physicians Assistant in the State of Kansas
Experience: Experience working in a fast-paced clinic setting using an electronic health records system.
Certificates, License, Registrations: Currently licensed in Kansas as a Physicians Assistant
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to communicate with persons of various backgrounds in a tactful and courteous manner. Must have comprehensive and timely knowledge of medical practice and be able to incorporate such knowledge in all conditions varying from the usual to the extraordinary and emergency. He/she must be able to work with other members of the medical team to ensure patient safety and patient care. Maintain compliance with HIPAA and patient confidentiality.
Physical: Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, and/or 10 pounds of force frequently, or negligible constantly. Walking or standing to a significant degree or sitting constantly and pushing/pulling controls.
