What are the responsibilities and job description for the Slitter Operator position at American Packaging Corporation?

Description

SUMMARY: Slits printed rolls from the press to individual rolls as per customer specifications. Material being slit is inspected for quality/defects and finished rolls are palletized for shipment to the customer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
  • Sets up machine.
  • Uses lowboy to mount full rolls onto machine.
  • Observes machine operation to detect material defects or machine malfunction.
  • Measures material dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation.
  • Performs minor machine maintenance such as oiling/greasing machines and changing female knives.
  • Prepares required paperwork, including daily production reports, SPC charting, roll tickets and inventory tags.
  • Trains helpers to operate the slitter.
  • Cleans area around the machine and does assigned AIB cleaning.
  • Completes work orders when necessary.
  • Actively participates in safety programs and makes safety observations. Follows plant safety rules.


HOURS: NIGHTS 7pm - 7am on a rotating 2-2-3 schedule

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Such instances are rare as employees have specific instruction on approved/unapproved lifts. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
