SUMMARY:
Direct, coordinate and oversee daily activities of American Rescue Workers Shelter Programs addressing the needs of the homeless including our Transitional Shelter and Men’s Long-Term Shelter Program.
American Rescue Workers is a faith-based nonprofit majoring in hunger and homelessness.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interview, accept/reject potential shelter residents. Maintain a confidential filing system on each applicant including photo ID.
- Conduct an orientation and educate applicant of shelter policies, rules and regulations.
- Set up appointments/referrals to other agencies that can provide resident with appropriate assistance depending on need. Arrange transportation if necessary.
- Work with residents on educational opportunities such as obtaining their GED, identification, drives license, setting goals for employment or higher education, etc.
- Conduct/direct/institute programs designed to help those with issues of alcohol/drug dependency, sexual addiction, employment barriers, family and social issues, etc., by providing necessary literature to needed resources.
- Review resident violations and determine appropriate action required.
- Direct physical maintenance of Men’s Center building including housekeeping and laundry facilities. Order necessary supplies.
- Oversee staff of case managers and shelter monitors. Plan for proper coverage during regular open hours, after hours, weekends and holidays.
- Determine short and long term goals (3-year plan) of the shelter operations or programs such as educational classes, studies, counseling, etc. Execute action plan.
- Present morning devotional one day a week.
- Attend staff meetings and other related meetings/functions within the community that will keep you connected to the growing needs of homelessness and how we can be of service.
- Communicate with Executive Director/Business Administrator situations requiring his/her attention.
- Special assignments as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position requires supervisory responsibilities involving the 24/7 process of hiring/termination, disciplinary action, intake, counsel, assessment, assignment and calculation of staff, employees, residents and volunteers. It also requires management team participation; attendance at bi-weekly staff meetings and working with the ARW staff in a team-oriented environment to accomplish the Christian mission of the American Rescue Workers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Excellent communication, written and verbal, and organizational skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Experience with using Client Management software to track client outcomes
Proficiency in web-based tracking and ordering systems
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree in Administration, Social Work, Ministry or related field.
5-7 years of progressive work experience in the human services sector, with demonstrated success in supervisory roles.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate in both verbal and written formats.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to sit, stand, and lift a minimum of 50 pounds. The minimum lifting requirement stated is determined according to the department/material. The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
