Summary:
The internal and community communications team seeks to hire a student for the upcoming academic year to support internal and community communications in the University Communications and Marketing (UCM) division. University Community & Internal Communications works daily with campus constituents and partners to publicize all aspects of the university through the university's internal messaging (community messages, AU Now, American Magazine), website, and student media organizations. The office consults with campus offices, academic units, and departments to promote students, staff, professors, programs, research, and events to internal audiences.
Essential Functions:
Assist with the daily activities of the office.
Writing, editing, researching, and analyzing internal news stories and topics.
Tracking and assisting with student media requests.
Working on special projects and general office duties.
Salary Range:
$17.50 per hour.
Position Type/ Expected Hours of Work:
Part-Time.
Required Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Working knowledge of communications and familiarity with university organization desired.
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Ability to be flexible and comfortable in a fast-paced office atmosphere.
Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines while paying close attention to detail and work independently to complete designated assignments.
Must be curious, proactive, and have a can-do attitude.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Photoshop, and social media.
Ability to use both Macs and PCs.
Previous experience working in a PR agency, newsroom or other communications office is helpful but not required.
Majors/minors including communications, public affairs, and journalism are helpful but not required.
